Shooting slugs in my shotgun

Newbie question here that I have not been able to find an answer to. I have a Mossberg 500A 12ga and a Saiga 12ga and would like to try shooting some slugs through them.

What type of slugs can I shoot in these? Both have a smooth bore barrel and no chokes.

Thanks for your help,

Michael

First you can shoot any type of slug in your guns but you would be best off with the plain old Foster type slug .The sabot type slugs are designed for the rifled barrels.

Exactly...

Any kind of "rifled" slug is what you want from smooth bore.

Plus, those are generally considerably cheaper than "sabot" slugs.

Thanks for the quick answers. I picked up a box of Truball rifled slugs to try.

Michael

Those are top o' the line.

The boring old Foster slugs from Winchester, Remington, etc. seem to do just fine for me in about any smoothbore I've tried them in. In fact, they can be amazingly accurate considering the absence of rifling.

I fired slugs thru my 870 at my shotgun class.

Never again LOL.

Remington 2-3/4" Sluggers are extremely accurate (only tested at 50 yards) out of my 20" smooth bore 870, and my Saiga 12.
