Hi Folks,

Never, ever, go to the CMP website when you have time on your hands. Really.

I did that, noticed that the Inland carbines are all gone, CMP is out of GARANDS, for cryin' out loud - but carbine orders open up again in September.

Lucky me I won't be home until November, maybe. On the other hand, I can fax all my info to them. How cool is that? So I did, and my order will be in come September.

Meanwhile, though - anyone have a handle on some 15 round USGI mags? At any sort of decent price? I'd like to get my sweaty hands on about a half dozen.

Sorry dude. Yesterday was my birthday and my wife bought me an Iver Johnson M1 carbine (mid 50's vintage) from a private seller and it only came with two 15 rnd magazines and two 30 rnd magazines.

I love that wonderful lady!

I did worse…. I went to the CMP store in Anniston. A Garand and a 1903 Springfield followed me home on the first trip and an Inland (I prefer to call it “My GMâ€.) on the second trip.

MY wife and I haven't been married that long (although long enough for her to know that if I'm at the computer, I'm looking at gun porn or checking my email) SO she's allowing me to buy my own present this year...I keep flip flopping between a NIB browning hi power mk III or a smaller carry pistol and holster.

That's because he can't seem to make up his mind.. Every time I think I know what he wants... He changes his mind to something else. So, I figure I better just let him buy his own present, which if he had his wish, would be the whole stinkin gun store! LOL

Aw heck Boom, your wife seems like a lovely person. I'm sure that with a little time Julie will warm to her, provide the sought after training and they will become the best of friends. Oh, ah ... that's not what you meant. Never mind.

Towerclimber, Happy birthday a bit early. I just love having birthdays. The alternative is the big sleep and I ain't ready for that yet. I'm all about successful trips around the sun for as long as I can.

Mark, Thanks for the congrats. I'll look out for some mags for ya. BTW, besides the post WWII .30 cal being underpowered, some of that was also due to the fact that the Chicoms in Korea wore so damned many thick layers of clothing. My uncle was one of the Chosin Few at the Changjin Resorvoir in Dec of '50 with the 1st Marines and carried a carbine. He was on a morter crew and lost a couple of toes and a finger there to the weather. At the same time, the M1 carbine was never meant to be an offensive weapon. It was designed specifically for folks that had other duties such as operating crew served weapons and driving vehicles and of course airborn troops. The rate of fire was great but the range was lacking.

Thanks for looking out for mags! I'm planning on ending up with two of the war babies. Have to, I know already that my wife is gonna steal one from me.

Rangewise, the carbine should easily be good to 100-150 yards. I have a few tricks up my sleeve for getting them to shoot straight. They should function pretty well with jacketed hollow points, too - Hmmm... a new candidate for trunk monkey?

Boomhower - whats' the difficulty? Is she a 'hates guns' person?

Update - 8 August, 2008: INLAND CARBINE UPDATE. As of 9 Aug, 2007, all orders for Inland carbines have been filled and shipped. This does not include those on NICS delay or in our problem file pending the receipt of eligibility information from some customers. If you have placed an order for an Inland carbine and not yet received it, please email custserve@odcmp.com. Our I&R process has graded several hundred more Inland carbines as Service Grade than we expected. As a result, Inland carbines (while quantities last) are once again open for mail order and for store sales. Inland carbines are now in stock at the South store, and will be on the racks at the North store when it reopens on 6 Sep. Our limit of one per customer (for Inland only) has been discontinued.

Today I went over to Marks' house and pulled an all day job cleaning all of his milsurps in an effort to get them ready for the CMP shoot that he and Fury were talking about...

I went to work on the Carbines last because I knew they'd take the longest.

The one with the most slack in it was the cleanest...the other (#19 on the buttstock) was tight as a tick on a coon dog...you could tell it hadn't seen much use..I would rate it as a service grade Inland.

Now bear in mind that the pictures of the target shown here, were shot with a fouled sight. (I hit it with the toothbrush and some hoppes #9 but when I wiped it off, some got in the sight and I forgot to use a pipe cleaner to clean it out...so it was a crappy sight picture.)

I'm willing to bet that you can half this group once the weapon is zeroed and cleaned a few times to get residual cosmoline out of it.

This was shot at 30 yards, 4 rounds.

and another update...for MY birthday, I got a pa63 from gunslingers...186.00 out the door..shoots great, I love it.

For MY birthday, my wife got a Baby desert eagle in .45..I didn't see the final cost but it was around 650.00 retail....shoots great, SHE loves it.

I can't wait till HER birthday!!!!
