If he is a resident of a different state than you, he will have to transfer through an FFL with a 4473 completed. Whether a sale or gift is immaterial. It’s the interstate transfer that’s the key point.

Unless something has changed lately, I believe, you can transfer a long gun across state lines. You can’t transfer a handgun without involving an FFL. Please let me know if this has changed.

If a person were to not open their mouth and tell everyone on the internet about said firearms-

How would any entity of Government even know-

If there is no gun registration how do they know whether you purchased in your home state or not-from an individual-a long time ago-

Not advocating for breaking any farcical laws but just saying-

Far too many people give way too much credit to Governmental Offices-

I get angry every single time I see the acronym ATF. It just pisses me off how freaking difficult they make stuff for no reason other than to make it difficult.  Most of the laws they ‘enforce’ are crap.  Then add in the perverted ways they interpret said laws, and you have a comedy but it’s not funny.  I remember how badly G. Gordon Liddy spoke of the BATF years ago on his radio show.  They’ve gotten worse since his day.
