Unintended Consequences Congress Never Saw Coming

"Congress always wants to accomplish something. They think that they have to have something on their resume to get re-elected. They need something to point to so they can say, “Hey, I did that for you, vote for me again and I’ll do more nice things.†Well, most of the time these things don’t really get thought through all the way, and much of the time would prefer they just stay out of the way. Give the Defense Department some money to protect us, build a few roads, and stay the heck out of my life..."

Quick Summary...

Community Reinvestment Act - Housing Crisis

Ethanol subsidies / mandates - Huge increase in food prices

Alternative Fuel Tax Credits - Billions of dollars of tax credits that they were too stupid to realize were coming

Congress rarely, if ever, looks past the number of zeros on the lobbyist's checks. They'd sell their soul for a fat campaign contribution.

You assume they actually have a soul. After the 1st term I doubt it.

Fixed it, I doubt they even make it to the start of their first term.

I think a few may actually start their first term with a sincere motivation to speak for their constituents and work for the peoples interest but it's a rare politician who can retain their principals after a year or two.

Yep, they either play the game or have their political career sabotaged by the rest of the Hyena's.

What's really crazy about the housing deal is that the government acts like it was the bank and lending companies fault.

The only thing the government can say is;

"How come you did what I told you to do when you know I don't know what I'm talking about."
