Not nearly the level of work you did but i got rid of a little more chrome last week myself.  I've had these black heat shields for about two years and finally got them swapped over.  This winter I think I want to tear the front end apart and poweder coat it all.

Where da fudge did THAT come from????!!!!!!?????😲

Weeeeell......... you know how you occasionally just HAVE to have a mooch around on Facebook marketplace. Not really looking for anything in particular, but then you see a very tatty, rough looking Sporty with a clean title for $400?

It came as rough as a bear's ass. Owner 'claimed' it was running last year..... the fire ant nest inside the cam chest determined that was BS.

I've already rebuilt the top end & installed a set of rocker lockers. I've got to pull the clutch today & see if the generator rotor is intact. I found too much magnetic gravel in the primary case & I'm 99% sure the rotor is starting to break apart.

After it's whole, it's going in a low, raked hardtail frame & I'm going back to my chopper roots ✌🏼

That nearly looks like a panhead. It certainly doesn't favor the ironhead engines as i remember them. What year is it?

Nossir, it's a 1990 Evo 883 with a 1200 top end. It might look weird to you because I've carved up the cam & sprocket covers into a more esthetically appealing shape. The upwards curve & vertical back of the sprocket cover always looked unfinished to my eye. I've always wanted to try rounding one off, then dropping another curve in where the cases meet to mirror the 'swoop' at the back of the oil filter housing.

Meanwhile, lurking behind the clutch......20240814_150643.thumb.jpg.e1330c42e9f4099548b064d5dcfa7b76.jpg

I just knew there was something expensive going on back there. Time to pull the transmission 🤦‍♂️

I wasn’t even thinking Evo. I was expecting something older.

Hard to believe Evo’s are 3 or 4 generations ago in the past 25 years of motor history.

Sometimes a bargain turns out to not be a bargain after all. It can still provide a lesson though.😁I tell my kids it builds character.

Yeah, this was an unexpected kick in the nards, that's for sure. But hey-ho, gives me something to do 😄 No epic story ever started with "so, I bought this bike in minty condition....."

I really don't like to think that 1990 was 34 years ago.

We are to 1990 what 1990 was to 1956. Now that one really trips my tits!

I didn't know "farkles" was a common motorcycle term. That's what we call it in the ADV circle too. I just would never have figure the HD guys would use that term. 🤣

I don't know about the harley crowd, I ain't one of em (me undies generally have Fruit of the Loom on the waistband, not the HD logo. I don't know what a doo rag is for & chaps are for rounding up cows! 😂) but I picked it up from the offroad plodders.
