Assume for the sake of discussion that life in the US has become untenable, and baring armed revolution you are resigned to relocating outside the US, permanently or temporarily.

Where would you go, and why?

Geez... maybe New Zealand?

Years ago I read a National Geographic mag that had a big story on the Opal mines in Australia. Basically the mine is your home, it's climate controlled and when you need more money, you dig another room. It caught my attention and I always thought I'd like to try that. New Zealand has also perked some interest for a visit.

With all that, there just ain't no place like Tennessee!

That's certainly true!

The geography of NZ is highly appealing to me, and they have fairly liberal gun laws (as far as countries in the pacific go anyway).

That said, even in the current political and economic climate, I'll take my stars and stripes any day.

A self paying addition. neat idea.

I thought New Zealand, Australia, and California all have "no guns allowed" laws.

Australia, I'm not sure about. NZ allows guns, but I believe permits are required for guns. Not sure if HCPs exist or not

I know just a little about Australia from some friends there. Guns are pretty much a huge NO! You can only have them in gun clubs. They must stay there, if you own property (a farm) you can have a single shot shotgun on premises. You can google for more... but the last major shooting they had there pretty much did away with most gun ownership.

Yup!

As far as gun laws....no matter where you go on planet earth today, there are sheeple there. Australia actually has terrible gun laws (they took them all up and are paying for it now). You can still own them but it costs a bundle and has huge red tape involved. There just is no frontier left that we can get to (space is it, or under the sea). Until man has to live "hard" again, we can expect to get pushed into smaller corners by those that never wonder where the next meal is coming from and don't think past their next paycheck.

If it ever does get "hard" again, watch the cities empty like flood waters and the urban zombies spread to the country side like locusts. Another good reason to live two days walk from the metro area!

If it ever comes to the time when this happens, I am pretty sure Texas will succeed from the US. We would have the Republic of Texas again. They have oil, sea ports, guns, manufacturing, and hot women. What else would you need?

My wife is from Colombia, all her family are there, and there actually might be a possibility we end up there one day (I could maybe get in with the State Dept. or DOJ). I don't know what their gun laws are like down there but I'm sure it's um...interesting. My Spanish is getting better.

If I could pick anywhere, though, it'd be Switzerland. But she hates the cold.

Leaving under those circumstances would be admitting defeat; I’m not doing that.

I may not like how some things are going, but we still have it better than any other country.

As things get worse here, more and more patriots are standing up and more and more Americans are becoming informed of the problems; we’ll get the problems fixed.

If you love your country step up and help. If you don’t… Canada has been accepting our rejects for decades; you will be fine there. ;)

I appreciate and echo that sentiment, but was wondering what other countries folks would consider if, hypothetically staying was NOT an option for whatever real or imagined reason.

I also thought about Switzerland, but again, the wife would hate it.

New Zeland would be a great place to go too.. but, only if they will let you in for permiante residence, which they are not doing right now.. you can visit, but you can't stay. Yes they allow guns.. a friend of mine lives there, he used to live in Pikeville, Ky. When he got divorced, he moved there.. the only reason that he got to stay is that he has a job talent that could be used there.. Tool and Die and he does contract work for the Gov. He only works about 6 months out of the year and then comes back to the states to shoot the other 6 months.. NZ has some very nice 1000 yard ranges.

They'll expedite your papers if you sign a contract of "intent to serve" in their military. They'll really gun for you if you're ex-US (or UK, for that matter) military personnel.

Hell if I know. ;) I'd go anywhere that allows me to keep my guns and has cold beer 24/7.
