If you have a valid (non-expired) passport you can use that instead of a birth certificate.

There's a DMV off of Hwy 96 here in Franklin. It's on Carother's just past Walker Chevrolet. Get there before lunch and there's practically no wait. I waited a total of 5 mins.

Take Exit 65 off of I-65, left at the light onto Hwy 96, right at Carothers. DMV is on the left.

Expired passport is fine, too.

That's what I used, since the one copy of my birth certificate is really flimsy.

EDIT: Wow, I went to http://tennessee.gov/safety/driverlicense/dlcitizen.htm, and you are correct. Must now be unexpired. They've changed that just since last Aug.

Mea culpa,
