No M&P here, but if you settle on the XD45, I've got one in 4" Service model. Dickson Co., but may travel...

Have you shot an XD40? I'm interested in what you think compared to the 45, and I've also been looking into M&P's as I've never shot one. I used to own an XDM 40 and traded it in on another gun, but want to eventually get another one.

By the way, I love that bumper sticker in your signature, I just ordered some.

JH,

Before I traded away a revolver for this XD45 about a year ago, I had already owned and EDC'd a XD40 Subcompact. As for reliability, both have been 100%. I carry both about 50/50. As for EDC the XD40 is much nicer. Its obviously lighter and shorter. Occasionally when I semi-open carry, I will use the extended mag in the 40. If I'm open-carrying (but always under an untucked shirt) I'll often take the 45.

Now...for all-day shooting, I'll take the 45 all day over the 40. The service model is heavier and thus more recoil-friendly. I have big bearpaws, so the subcompact grip on the 40 can be a handful. I barely get a pinky to flex under the tip of the subcompact grip. The extended mag option does help with this. My wife, in her infinite wisdom, says this regarding the difference between them: "the 40 SLAPS where the 45 kinda shoves." I'd say that's as accurate a description of recoil I've ever heard. She prefers to shoot the 40 because she has small hands.

So, in a nutshell, I love the XD platform in all calibers. For its ease of concealment I prefer the 40. If concealment not a factor, I prefer the 45.

But I fully trust them both. Hope that helps.

I have a XD45C and my buddy has a XD40SC. I EDC my XD IWB, not a big problem if you are use to carrying a 1911. I prefer the .45 but my buddy prefers the .40. Shooting wise I like my follow up shoots more than more ammo but that is just me. Not saying I wont own another .40 but I have yet to find one I like. Have owned a Beretta 96 and a Springfield P9C.
