Common Sense Gun Laws

Recommended Posts

I hear all these people on TV say they are for "Common Sense Gun Laws". What exactly does that mean? No one ever says what it is they're asking for.

Well, the term “common sense” has been in use forever.  Those who throw it around the most usually don’t know what they’re talking about.

I guess you could say, the problem with Common Sense Gun Laws is that the people pushing them don't have much common sense.

It means gun control that only restricts the freedom of law abiding citizens. Typically they want every legal gun sale to go through a FFL (and a national registry and tracking system for all firearms), ban any magazines that can be easily detached and/or hold more than 10 rounds, severe restrictions on where/when you can legally carry a firearm, registration and qualification to own a firearm, ban assault weapons (which of course are just semi automatics with cosmetic features that scare ignorant people), take away firearms from any person they think might be dangerous, and other such things.  None of these things will prevent criminals from committing violent crimes like assault or murder which are already against the law anyway.  I call them nonsense gun laws as opposed to common sense.

I’ve always read it as “as much as we can get this time before we start in asking for more next go around.“

See, what you want to do is have a solid argument. And if you don't have a solid argument, you want to attack your opponent. In this scenario, since you can't support your ideas with facts and logic, you tell your opponent that since they don't agree with you, it is automatic that they have no common sense. Don't fall for the BS.

The 2nd as it is written is the best and only argument we need. Especially the last few words, “”” shall not be infringed “””.

You certainly have a way with words! I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Common sense for me is enforcing the laws you have right now. Like keeping repeat and violent offenders behind bars.

Common sense would be going back to the laws of 1930 and starting again.
