Passed the Senate. Once they have a passed bill that matches from both the house and senate it will be transmitted to the governor for his signature. We're not out of the woods yet, but you can see it from here...

It still has to be signed by the Governor..and the house and senate has to work out the details before they can send it to the Gov because the senate modified the version that the house passed. If the Gov signs it, then it becomes law on July 1st. If he veto's it, then the house and senate must override the veto for it to become law.

i wonder if they have the balls to get that (overriding) that done if it was needed?

It's not balls, it's number of votes. Haven't looked at the numbers, so I have no idea if we have the numbers or not...

The word in another thread is that Rep Todd will recommend accepting the senate version. Also may loose about 10 votes from the total that passed the house version, but that would still be enough to get it passed in the house (again).

In any event, it will not go into effect until at least July 1.

My understanding is that he doesn't have to sign it or veto at all and it will automatically become law after a period of time. That's his way of playing both sides of the fence.

True. Any Tennessee governor can do that (so can the President)...it is a way for them to signal their disapproval without overturning the will of the people as expressed through their elected representatives. Doing so will, they hope, not cost them or their party any votes in the next election--while still giving them an "I told you so" if the legislation results in ill effects.

I believe they call that being chicken feces.

I would rather him not sign it than vetoing it since it's his last term.
