Time to bury another alcoholic

I learned something last year that I never knew. The reason it's called intoxicated is because alcohol is a toxin for the human body. It horrible for us. And despite popular belief, there is no safe amount. Even 1-2 drinks per day is bad for us. Alcohol increases the risks for every type of cancer and negatively impacts our mental health.  My wife and I quit drinking 13 months ago and we don't miss it.

I’ve seen this a lot lately and was initially suspicious, but now believe there’s something to it.  I suspect the more serious fans of alcohol will write it off as Baptist teetotaler propaganda.

One thing that strikes me is the very positive light that movies and TV shows put on alcohol. One hardly ever sees a movie aimed at adults that doesn't include drinking. And even drunks are dipicted as happy people that are fun to be around.

This.  Too many scenes in movies and shows where somebody has a long day (or even a normal day) and a stiff drink or five is obligatory.

I have no moral issue with alcohol and don't judge anyone that drinks. If you're interested in it, Huberman labs has a really good podcast episode about everything alcohol does to our bodies. It's long but can also be found on Spotify if you have time to kill while driving.

Irony of me just seeing this yesterday is my wife told me the fire department was at her school today. Two students were drunk, one was passed out and had to be hospitalized for alcohol poisoning, She works in a middle school. I drank a lot when i was young, again when I went through my second divorce and carpal tunnel. You just have to take my word that self medication for pain with alcohol will spiral. After getting out of the service I didn't drink a drop for 12 years. Now if I want a beer or a drink I can have one or two without turning into 15. It' is very rare.
