Custom 1911 10mm

I picked up my Auto Ordnace 1911 in 10mm from the gun smith on Friday. I fired a couple rounds for function on Friday evening but not for accuracy. Steve johnson at S&R Guns in Cookeville is an amazing 1911 pistol smith. He took a sow's ear and turned it into a silk purse. He installed a Briley Bushing, new hammer, new trigger, Trijicon Nights sights, beaver tail safety, new grips, trigger job (zero creep!), extended safety, bead blasted the frame, teflon coated the slide and added 24ib recoil spring. I just fired the gun for accuracy and it is amazing. The ballistics on a 10mm out of a 5" barrel is very close to that of a .357 mag out of a 4" barrel. I would like to take my 10mm on a deer hunt.

My only regret is that I did not use a more expensive host gun. The Auto ordnace was about $450. With the first 50 rds the gun has been 100% reliable.

I really like 10mm autos. Does any one else have a fancy for the big 10?

I got a chance to shoot on ea while back. I must admit I was very skeptical about the "10" but it was based off what I had read and some second hand comments. I shot a 10mm also in a 1911 (5" barrel) it was completely controllable, functioned flawlessly, and was a joy to shoot. :yuck:

Even with my hands (they are small) I was amazed at both balence and recoil. And yeah I started day dreaming about one. LOL!!! I'm pathetic.

Counting down the minutes until MolonLabeTN is in here drooling on his keyboard...

He probably already did, and shorted out the keys :D

Very nice... I've gotta Ted Yost Colt Delta Elite that's been my primary sidearm for almost 3 years now. The 10mm is, IMHO, the finest defensive autopistol cartridge so far. You're actually understating its capabilities... it pretty much smokes .357 Mag ballistics, and is much closer in raw power to the .41 Magnum. Check out McNett's stuff at www.doubletapammo.com , he loads the 10 to original Norma pressure specs, while most of the available loadings from the major ammo companies are barely hotter than .40 S&W. Doubletap also loads a 230gr Hardcast lead flatpoint that should be ideal for deer. Good ammo from a good guy. :D

Regardless of what you choose to shoot out of it, that's a sweet gun you got there, make sure Molon doesn't swipe it!

Hey now... I'm not the gun-toucher on this board.

But I feel so empty every time I leave the shop without that DW Razorback...
