Blue Alert issued after one Maryville officer killed, another injured

They have a vehicle based system that can send the alert to all cell towers within some distance from the truck. They used it for a silver alert less than a mile from my house a few years ago. One of my former coworkers found the man behind his house.

I agree that the distribution and timing often seems odd, but its probably worth the annoyance.

Maybe I'm also an a-hole, but when I'm asleep in my bed, I am not going to wake up and join the search. Therefore I put my phone on DoNotDisturb on a schedule for 8 hours every night. I'm not offended by them in any way, but I sleep poorly enough as it is, so it can wait til morning. I don't need to add my phone to the list of things that wake me up from a sound sleep.

I check the alerts right away the next morning and throughout the day to see if I need to be on the lookout or not though.

Amen.  Already hard enough to get enough sleep without some alert in the middle of the night about a crime six or seven hours away.

I'd be fine with a text message alert that I an see in the morning when I get up, but linking in to the Amber Alert system is too much.

First off, everyone knows what an Amber alert is. But you get woken up at 5:30 am to a "Blue Alert" and sleepy me says "WTF is a Blue Alert?"

And what am I going to be able to do about it? 99.999% of the people that alert went to, rolled back over and went back to sleep. If it were something like "Take cover - Zombies attacking" then, YES wake me up. THAT I need to know ASAP and will do something about.

And, don't get me wrong, I'm a supporter of Law enforcement, and this cop getting killed is a horrible thing, but I'm not getting alerts when my stand-up neighbor gets shot by the most dangerous bad guy in the state. Is the point of these alerts to let you know someone really dangerous is out there running around, or to just point out that a cop was shot?

Sorry, I'm a little grumpy. Oak Ridge got a new alert system I signed up for and it went of at 5am this morning with a phone call to tell me a road was closed. I'm just annoyed with alerts this week.

Any update about this dirt bag yet beside the reward amount?

I was over there yesterday The murders brother and murders girlfriend have been arrested for accessory after the fact  He. has not been taken into custody yet as far as I know but a manhunt is underway   I saw about 25 agencies on site  His Sheriff sat crying. Blue alerts are to inform citizens a dangerous person is on the loose and they should exercise caution  if he has killed a LEO he won’t have a problem killing a citizen.  not all people work days  It was their duty and responsibility to warn people  Please pray for the officers family he had two kids now fatherless and a finance

This might get me banned but we could solve a lot of issue in our "justice" system by turning Old Sparky back on! Capitol punishment does deter crime when it is applied publicly.

I wish no bad things on any one, but if one of theirs got hurt or worse things might change.

Walls 100 feet thick, 100 feet tall, built to encompass 100 acres, no doors, no roof. Food and water dropped in by helicopter. As well as new inmates dropped in by helicopter. No Capitol punishment in my system as J Walking gets you life in my house.

It’s going to take a lot more than 100 acres to store the ####stains of society, like walling  off an entire city.

Think Escape from New York.

NOPE, to many builds and stuff to make life easier, my house is in the desert, after a few years crime will go away. What is left will do each other in after that.

I'm surprised this guy hasn't been found yet. Dead or alive. I'm sure someone is helping him.

My money is on a shootout ending in his death

At some point our justice system should be held accountable.

Greg has spoken a great truth here...

I've believed for a long time that " the justice system" ain't about justice at all.  It's a financial enterprise.

The more trials n hearings, the more lawyer fees.  This works just fine until ya get a genuine killer like this guy.

Ray Charles could tell ya this guy was headed for this end.

We need to stop plea bargains and judicial deference.  The people running the " justice system " by and large are not honest nor wise enough for " bargains " and " deference "...

Except they aren’t having many trials, at least around here.  Shelby County held less than 40 criminal trials in 2023.  This is not due to increased plea bargains and such; on the contrary, nothing is getting done and the backlog is getting bigger.  On any given day, you can walk around at 201 and it’s a ghost town.

They said there was not a tipster that earned the reward.  If so, I would like to see the reward money given to the fallen Officer's family.
