Hey y’all, I’m looking to get a DSA fal and wanted to know if it’s worth the money. I’ve seen a couple of the voyager series around the $1500 range, is that a good price or too high. This would be a range toy and an example for my Cold War collection. While it’ll mostly look pretty I would like it to be reliable and not have any issues. Any insight would be much appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the "Voyager" series.  DSA had some reliability issues about 10 years ago.  But I have not  heard of any issues lately.  They did fix problems that were reported to them.

These days $1500 for a brand new FAL is a bargain.  The FAL is well-known for being extremely reliable except in a desert environment.  Very easy to maintain and clean.  Parts are still pretty reasonable and available, too.

The voyager line is simply a straight commercial release, built for a more streamlined production instead of owning any particular military pattern. It’ll be fine. Recommendation I would make is to ensure that you source some surplus magazines. The polymer DSA mags do not have a good reputation.

I’ve always enjoyed shooting FALs.  The highly adjustable gas system usually means that if it feeds OK, you can shoot about anything.   I have seen DSA rifles going for less than $1500 so it might pay to look around.

I personally would recommend that you join the FALfiles and buy a nice surplus gun or even DSA from there. It’s also a nice place to source surplus mags— although they are about 50 bucks a pop now.

You could pick up something with at least as good function and better heritage, more “tactical” or whatever floats your boat.

The DSA FAL’s are lots of fun. I haven’t had any problems at all from mine. It’s about 8 years old, and it eats everything. Slings brass fast and far. I can’t recall ever having any malfunctions.
I’d stay away from the voyagers.
I don’t have any experience with polymer mags, but I’d stay away from them too.

I would say stay away from Century made ones . I also heard that the best ones are the Argentina and Austria made receivers . Imbels are fine too.
I read in some blogs that the early made DSA s had some feeding and QC issues
