Obama's Pizza Party At Taxpayer's Tab

Obama orders pizza from St. Louis, Chicago miffed

CHICAGO (AP) — The news is hitting Chicago deep dish pizza makers' eye like a big pizza pie.

President Barack Obama is having 140 people over to the White House Friday night for a some deep-dish pizza — St. Louis deep dish pizza.

It seems during his campaign he had pizza from a restaurant called Pi in St. Louis. That's the story Pi assistant manager Lindsey Tornetto tells.

Whatever happened, the restaurant says the owner and his partner packed dough, cheese and pizza pans in their suitcases and flew to Washington.

It all has Marc Malnati — owner of 30 Lou Malnati's Pizzarias in the Chicago area — shaking his head. He says he likes Obama's economic policy, but thinks the president's pizza policy should change.

President Barak Obama wants to have 140 folks over to the White House Friday. He wants to serve pizza.

That must be the pizza made famous in his hometown of Chicago, right? Wrong.

The pizza will be from St. Louis.

Marinara sauce from pizzarias all over Chicago will soon be flowing in the streets like... err... marinara sauce. How can this be? Their favorite son is turning his back (and his taste buds) on them?

That's bad enough, but again, it's coming from St. Louis! Perhaps not mortal enemies, but St. Louis and Chicago have been bitter rivals for some time.

The Cubs may not be able to show off a World Series ring from this century, but Chicago has always had the deep dish pizza. St. Louis is known for the brew that goes with the pizza -- the foamy stuff that made Adolphus Busch a few million dollars. And there's the Cardinals. And that arch thing. But pizza?

And it just gets worse for Chicago's pride. The long distance pizza delivery (I trust the President tips well) is coming from a newcomer. The restaurant, Pi, has only been in business for about a year. So, just a year in business and Pi can already beat the best of Chicago in a dough throw? Really?

Pi's owner, Chris Sommers, is a longtime Obama supporter who first met the candidate at a fundraiser. He later served up his St. Louis style pizza to Obama's staff while they were on a campaign stop in October. Sommers confesses he wasn't sure Obama would even eat it, but he did and he loved it.

Sommers' plan for Friday is not to deliver the pizza a la Dominos, but rather deliver the pizza fixin's and himself. He will bake the pizza fresh in the White House kitchen. (Good luck getting all that dough and sauce past T.S.A.'s airport screeners. "Sir, you're only allowed 4 onces of liquid ... No sir, I don't care who it's for.")

So does this make the President a deep dish traitor? To hear some talk in Chicago, yes.

more hypocrisy from our fearless leader and his new favorite pizza-maker from St. Louis.

Michelle Malkin Environmentally-friendly restaurant delivers pizza 800 miles for ‘green’ president

This guy travels via jet to the White House to make pizza for Obama, and on his website, the pizza maker claims to be a green restaurant, creating an al-bore sized carbon footprint.

I guess their "significant carbon offset purchases" eliminate the DC trip.

More "do as I say, not as I do" mentality from the Obamanation.

Who cares? Why is this news? Don't we all have more important things to spend our time caring about?

I think it's quite obvious that several people care. It's news because it's hypocrisy. All the crap storm about the Big 3 CEO's flying private jets to Washington being wasteful, but this is ok? If you have "more important things" to care about, feel free to do so.

I agree! This is not the first president to order pizza,or throw a party at tax payers expense,it will not be the last.

If you want to complain about the guy,I'm all for it,and in the front, but can we not pick something worth wild here?

Borger: Republicans Twittering away credibility - CNN.com

Borger: Republicans Twittering away credibility

By Gloria Borger

CNN Senior Political Analyst

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- When presidents are new, first impressions really count: Your demeanor (shirtsleeves, not jackets, in the Oval Office), your stature (move over, Mr. Sarkozy) and, of course, your plans for America's future (not to mention your plans for our 401(k)s).

Since President Obama's presidential bid was a very long affair -- and since his predecessor left with a 28 percent approval rating -- he came into office with an advantage. Americans figured they knew him and they surely liked him better than the previous guy.

And they understood he was persistent: After all, he was the underdog who beat the once-presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton. And, by the way, he also gave great speeches.

But new presidents are always tested, as Joe Biden famously predicted. But not just on one front, on all fronts. And Obama has had more than his share, as he likes to remind us -- an economic crisis that threatened to take down the economy; a North Korean nuclear warhead that soared into space.

And finally, the pirates of Somalia -- threatening an American crew -- hold an American captain hostage. A high-stakes, visible, compelling story, with inevitable winners and losers.

That's when you learn about a president.

The president played it cool -- in fact, pitch-perfect -- as it turns out. We now know that while he was saying little in public, he was completely engaged. He sent his secretary of state to warn the pirates publicly -- while the president privately held more than 17 briefings on the matter and made sure the bureaucrats at all agencies were working together (no small task).

And finally, he gave an unambiguous order -- to shoot if the captain's life was in peril.

And when it was all over, as a top administration official told me, Obama "didn't wrap himself around the bravery of those military seals."

Indeed, he commended the captain, the SEALs, called for multilateral efforts to stop piracy -- and went on the next day to give an economic speech. Indeed, this aide adds, "He's not about to put on a flight suit on an aircraft carrier and declare mission accomplished."

Not his style, they say.

But what about the style of say, Newt Gingrich? The former House Speaker -- often mentioned as a possible presidential contender in 2012 -- decided to Twitter his inner thoughts on the pirates in real-time.

Last Saturday: "Obama is making a major mistake in not forcefully outlining the rules of civilization for dealing with pirates. We look weak."

By Monday, after the safe rescue of the captain, Gingrich was, er, a tad more laudatory: "The Navy seals did exactly the right thing in rescuing the American captain. President Obama did the right thing in allowing the Navy to act."

A grudging kudo, if there ever was one.

Would it have been better if the president of the United States had publicly engaged with a bunch of teenage thug pirates? It's beneath Obama's pay grade and dignity -- not to mention how it would have added fuel to an already incendiary situation.

So how about just admitting that the administration performed admirably in this crisis?

Here's the problem: If Republicans can't allow that the president did his job well in this unambiguous case, why should we believe their complaints about anything else? If they can't pat him on the back for this one, why should we even listen to their arguments about the budget, about health care, about energy?

If Republicans want Americans to see their arguments as credible -- as they may well be -- they need to present themselves as the credible opposition.

Good first impressions count for them, too. And so far, Republicans are Twittering them away.

Hijack!

There I said it.....now what?

Seriously,I dont see it as such because all the replies have been on topic with the OP. Just because folks have a differencing view, doesn't make it a hijack imo

No,that article was suggesting that over-complaining (complaining about pizza in this case) is removing the credibility of Conservatives.

We are complaining about pizza here folks! Pizza!

Like I said earlier, hes not the first president to throw a party, and he wont be the last, but as the article says, complaining about it just looks silly when there is so much more to be complaining about!

EDA: The article says complaining on Twitter. Now although this isn't Twitter,I hope you can see the similarities

You mean like complaining about a candidate's wardrobe that was purchased by the RNC?

Oh, that's right! The Democrat's primary rule: It's only ok when WE do it!

And in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a centrist. I will bitch about waste on both sides of the isle. Like the pork in the newest budget that didn't carry over from the Bush era. Over $15B I believe, and most of it is from the left, but only by $600M. For example: The highway to nowhere.
