Any ideas on how to get the slide off?  It is stuck.  Removed spring, and barrel bushing, and slide stop(no mag), now the slide moves about 1/4 inch back and forth and will not let me remove it.

It is is Kimber II 45acp.

Really don't need a gunsmith bill for Christmas.

Is your hammer back, safety down, and are you pressing on the beaver tail safety when trying to remove slide?

This …….or is the magazine still in it

Put it away and forget about it until you are no longer frustrated. Go back then and look it over real good. I expect you'll figure it out then.

Agree with Greg. I had to do the same a couple of times.

The grip safety should not be pressed in while trying to remove the slide.   Otherwise the firing pin safety lever can stick up enough that the slide hangs up on it.

I have a Kimber Stainless II. If it is Stainless on Stainless the frame and slide very well could have galled itself together. If that's the case it's going to be a real problem getting them apart.

At best you have to beat it off the frame. And that will leave very deep galling marks. This is always a problem with Stainless steel because it is very "gummy", due to the Nickel content of the Stainless Steel itself.

Whenever I shoot ANY  of my Stainless Steel 1911's, I heavily lubricate the rails and slide grooves. You want to see lubricant oozing out between the slide and the frame at all times. And lubricate again just as soon as you don't.

This can also happen with carbon steel guns, although it is not as frequent.

Give Kimber customer service a call. I don’t know if yours is under warranty or not, but I have had some very good experiences dealing with them. Under warranty or not, one of their techs can help you out. Be sure to call them and not email them. Good luck.

Same here. Vehicles too. Before the temper came out, then the sledgehammer. My wife has seen that look come over my face and told me "just walk away from it."

Good advice.

Just to help prevent this for anyone who shoots semi auto pistols. (Especially Stainless Steel models). I ALWAYS use a small dab of this on the slide rails / frame, before heading out to the range.

When it come to preventing seizing and galling it's the best stuff obtainable, and works far better than simple oils and greases. There is a very good reason Glock applies it on their frames and slides of every single weapon they ship.
