30 Super Carry

Just read a gel test report on the new 30 caliber from Greg Ellifritz's weekend newsletter on his Active Response Training page.  The guy gel tested 4 loads, Federal HST 100 Gr Hp, Hornady Critical Defense 100 Gr HP, Remington HTP 100 Gr HP, and Speer Gold Dot 115 Gr H P. Only 1 had any expansion at all. Hornady. Just might be cause for concern.

Seems like .30 Super Carry isn't going to catch on which is a little sad, but non-expanding hollow point ammo isn't going to bolster its odds of succeeding either.

You would think the manufacturers would have thoroughly tested for this. But smaller hollow points are more difficult to get to open up as less fluid can get in the tip to provide hydraulic force to expand them. Maybe a simple soft point would have worked better? Or some kind of plastic insert to help start the expansion, which the Hornady bullet has (the "flex tip" insert).

I'm afraid the .30SC was DOA. It was introduced right in the middle of covid with minimal fan fare. I think there are only two guns chambered for it? ❓ The makers didn't make much fuss, so why should customers? Besides, it didn't offer much over existing .32 caliber rounds except for being much more expensive. and harder to find. 🙄
