Cowboy Action Shooting

I took time to go to the Smokey Mtn Shooters Society's cowboy action shoot this morning in Oak Ridge.

This was my first time going and what a bunch of nice folks they are. They were more than eager to share info on reloading and tricking up Marlin rifles. The big problem I had was keeping up with the order of targets until after a couple of shooters had fired.

I was surprised at the number of women that shot in these matches and how good they are. I feel sorry for the poor fool that may try to do these ladies harm.

If you have time to go to one of these shoots, GO! It is a lot of fun to watch and looks like it might be even better to try.

I used to shoot SASS events about 10 years ago. Really a lot of fun when it first started, but then it got to be like IPSC. Everybody was trying to find ways to shave off another tenth of a second off their time. Super tuned guns, speed rigs. It just got to be no fun for me after that. People were even cheating to win. That's not the "Cowboy Way".

Wartrace is the closest to Murfreesboro that I know of. The head man is Preston Sweeney. Used to be in real estate in the Boro I think. You might get more info off their blog:
