Logging Land and Hunting Effects Afterwards

Recommended Posts

What's your experience with hunting the first year after logging land? I've hunted land that has been logged a few years afterwards and it always seems to increase deer within the ecosystem, but what about the same year it was logged and the first and second year(s) afterwards? What's been your experiences?

I'm experiencing that right now. This land was logged in March of this year.  I'm not seeing many bucks this year, but then rut hit much earlier than I was expecting. Been watching does most of the season so far. Right now it doesn't seem like there's as many deer on the place. I hope that changes.

I had a forester help me with mine, select cut only 12-14" diameter trees and larger, and this forester worked with TWRA many times. He stated that if you leave the tops where they fall instead of pushing them up in piles, yes, it doesn't look as clean, but wat logging job does, but the wildlife activity increases a lot within a year of new growth. I just didn't understand how I was seeing so many deer during archery, definite rut activity week before muzzleloader and it was like a faucet was cut off
