If Cleveland is not to far out of the way, check out John Miller @ JFM Gunsmithing. Very affordable labor rate, does good work and is a heckuva nice guy 423-790-7077

Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville is the best choice in this area.

I'll have to give them a call because because my experience with Gander Mountain's gunsmith leaves something to be desired. I have a SA XDm40 and wanted to know what they charge to install night sights. Their gunsmith said $60 (pretty steep).

When I told him what pistol I have and that I wanted (either Tru Glo or Trijicons), he said that there are no aftermarket sights made for the XDm yet. I told him that many gunsmiths were having success installing XD sights onto XDms. He said that the slides were completely different and that there's no way they would fit. I corrected him telling him that I contacted SA and have an email from them in which they confirm that the sight dovetails are identical. He then repeated that no gunsmith will install sights that weren't made for the exact pistol. I asked him why then does Springfield Armory offer a service to install Trijicons onto a XDm slide? (for $110 installed - that's $10 for the install when you consider that the sights retail for around $99.)

After this exchange, I personally wouldn't let Gander Mtn's gunsmith work on my kids bicycle, let alone my firearm. It's one thing to say that you won't install items because you're unfamilair with what's available, it's another to claim your uneducated opinion as fact (and to make it sound like you know everything and the customer doesn't know anything, like this guy did).

Coal Creek management should send Gander Mtn's gunsmith a thank you card for helping their business with customer service like this!

I had some work done at Randys Guns in halls and was very satisfied. Their customer service is light years beyond Coal Creek's. You don't have to worry about Randy's guys being toolsheds when asking questions.

Predator Custom has the best gunsmith in Knoxville on staff.

Shadow at Phantom's can probably do it at a reasonable price.

Ive always had bad luck at Randys, Ive gave them 3 or 4 chances telling myself maybe they were rude because they were having a bad day, or maybe they overcharged because they had a hard time finding the part but after the last dealing with them I will never go back. But thats just my experience with them.

+1 on Predator, Jimmy is a real good guy. I have had several jobs for them and have always been more than pleased. Once I needed a new barrel installed on my F-class rig and needed it fast because the competition was the following week and they turned it arouned in enough time for me to break the barrel in and get some range data on it. Bob is the gunsmith and he knows his stuff.
