Murfreesboro Storms

There was a thread here that was lost due to the server issues earlier today. In that thread I had a post with information for people who wanted to assist with the recovery to meet at the Walter Hill School and groups would be dispatched to the locations from the school.

I received an update late this afternoon as I left around 8:30 that this has changed and emergency personnel will not be organizing at the school.

For those who want to help, I believe TGO David had mentioned St. Marks Church Disaster Relief and others had mentioned to contact local churches for organizational efforts. This seems to be the best place to start at this time as local agencies are overwhelmed with the magnitude of this event and will be working their way through the damaged areas tomorrow, some of which are still, tonight, inaccessible and yet to be surveyed.

Just be very cognizant of the support teams already in the area. Tennessee is blessed to have a lot of volunteers when these things happen but the areas don't want a lot of un-organized help pouring in. We tried to go into Lafayette last year when that one came through and got stopped by deputies. They wanted to know who we were going to help and where. We said just point us to it and he didn't know where to send us that first day. I think they were being cautious of looters. Anyway, a lady where I work lived over there and her home was totally blown away (trailer, go figure) so we went to her house the next day and cleared her yard of downed trees.

Just be aware that they may ask these questions. Even though we have some of the best citizens around in my opinion, we also have the low lifes that think a tornado is carte blanche to go wandering around "finding" stuff.

Excellent point Rightwinger. If you try to enter the storm damage areas tomorrow I can almost guarantee that you will be questioned if you are not a part of the organized response team.

There are still a LOT of power lines down as well as large trees and debris. The main priorities tomorrow will be clearing the streets first, then right of ways, and of course any emergency/life saving will take first priority.
