The author of that article is either ignorant or attempting to be inflammatory.  The MPDC policy does not apply to USSS agents.  USSS policy applies, and the agent(s)' actions will be investigated under that policy and the applicable laws.

I don't follow his writing; so, I don't know if this is a common practice of his.

As for Secret Service being held to the same standard we mere 'citizens' would be in the same circumstances? Never gonna happen. But I think that's the whole point the author is trying to make - we are restraining citizens from being able to defend property but giving a free pass to Federal agents. What's good for the goose...is good for the gander, no?
