DD Larry Vickers Signature Edition

I've owned -this- 1-of-250 limited edition Daniel Defense Larry Vickers Signature Edition M4's for about 8 years. (Alternate Article)  I had a meet and greet with him, and he signed the receiver and his sling for me.

It's a pretty nice setup. All the name brand state-of-the-2010-art stuff. Very heavy by today's standards, but the RIS II is still respected. It was a $3000 item back when it was released.

His felony charges got me thinking... does his prohibited person status make it more collectable, or less? That's one third joke but two thirds a serious question. The guy served his country and has battled cancer, and he was pleasant in person - I've met several personalities in the industry who are not worth spending time with. So I'm not bashing on him, I'm just honestly curious what impact on value the recent developments have on a signature gun from a person who can no longer own guns.

My guess is not much change. One in used condition with light wear went for $2350 at Rock Island Auctions this past Feb. I imagine this one in New condition with autographs is basically worth only a little over what it originally sold for.

Not for sale, sorry, just a topic of conversation with Larry in the news. FWIW I think SOTs should be able to build and buy whatever. The GCA Law Letter crap exists almost solely to be abused by people with connections while the have nots, have not.

Regarding his legal troubles,I wonder the same thing. I was on a waiting list for a Springfield Vickers Master Class 1911.The quoted price was $1400 but when it arrived 2.5 years later the price was $1900.I passed but wonder now if perhaps I should have bought it.

Thanks for commenting on topic, @et45.  Your reply prompted me to actually look for myself. Here are a few recently closed GunBroke transactions:

  • $760  Glock 45 with the *case* signed by Larry
  • $2000  Glock 17 w/optic Wilson Combat Vickers edition, from Larry's collection
  • $No bids at $1875, Springfield 1911 Vickers MasterClass

There were a dozen more, same trends. Based off of this sample, I think stuff with a direct tie to Larry (signed, owned, etc) seems to be going high right now, while things that are just Vickers editions do not seem to be getting a bump.

I might put my M4 on the GunChoker. It seems like now would be the time for maximum return; I could turn it into a gun I actually shoot.

I think it's the kind of thing where you have to go find the buyers who'll pay a premium.    The time is probably ripe now, because in 5 or 10 years I can't imagine anyone much caring.

I've seen a couple of his handguns a Glock, and a 1911 that was personally owned by him and documented but that was before he screwed up and got busted. I guess it would depend on the person who was wanting to buy. I personally wouldn't pay a premium either way, I've watched his videos and have the upmost respect for him especially for his service to this country, but being in the Firearms business as he was he should've known better than to get involved in the situation he's in now.

DJTC you're right. I did a search on closed auctions of his personal collection -they are all sky-high like that. I think I am going to list this gun on Gunbroker during the hype. Ugh... I hate those fees.

Yeah that's the only problem with Gunbroker and the sales tax they charge. But you might make a decent profit. I'd put a reserve on it that way if you don't get that your not out anything except the listing. It would help if you had some kind of documentation of him singing it, such as a picture.

With sports memorabilia there’s typically a short bump in price if someone gets elected to the HOF. There’s a joke to be made somewhere in there but I’d imagine now would be the time to move if you were inclined.

I don't think LAV's legal troubles are going to effect the desire for his stuff. No one wants it because he's a such a nice guy. They want it because he's the real deal, been there/done that/got the tshirt. Delta Force team leader of Alpha Team.
