T/C black diamon BP?

Recommended Posts

I have a Black Diamon BP rifle that takes the 209 primers. after the 5-6 shot there is so much gunk in the action that when I pull the trigger the bolt stays cocked back and doesnt fire the weapon. i clean the barrel everyother shot but it still happens. i have to take it apart and clean it, than 5 shots later it does the same thing. i called Thompson and they said to send it in and they will look at it. before i send it in, I thought i would ask the pros on TGO! any thoughts? I'm looking for a encore, should i just sell this and make the jump to a pro hunter? but i dont want to give someone else junk...any thought?

I am confused. How are you getting gunk in the action. Everything should be sealed off from the action. HAve you checked your breech plug to see if there is any damage to the threads? You shouldn't have any blowback on a muzzleloader. The 209 primer should seal off the nipple and the breech plug should seal everything else off. So if you are getting gunk back in the action, I would guess that it is coming from one of those two places.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

PS - Not sure if the my Encore breech plug will fit in your ml, but you are welcome to borrow it to see if that makes any difference.

yea...rub it in that you have an encore! lol  well, the plug seems to go in quite well and i dont see anything wrong with the threads or sealing surfaces. i have tried the plug with nothing on the threads, than i tried it with anti-sieze on the threads; it still gets gunk back in the action and stops the bolt from coming forward when the trigger is pulled. wanna trade a black diamond for an encore? lol
