Ann Coulter on Guns today - AWESOME!

Well look, when you have the daily barrage from the left that is attacking the very foundation that has made this country great, it is easy to be vitriolic.

Amen Brother!

Years ago it might have been a little here, a little there, but ever since 9/11 and George Bush it is a 24/7/365 onslaught of vitriol from the left and their media lackeys - NON FREAKIN' STOP. Give it a rest already! This isn't communist Russia, it never will be and people don't want it to be.

Bush is gone lefties, now who are you going to sacrifice? Each other?

I do think that satire can be effective, and funny. I just find it problematic that we are beginning to rely so heavily on it for our political discourse. In this particular instance, I don't disagree with a lot of what she is saying. What I disagree with is how she makes her message (though more often than not, how she makes her message is her message). That article posted above sets up her classic strawman: the liberal, and does so, largely at the expense of her actual argument.

I don't agree with a lot of his policies, but guess what, he is the democratically elected president of the United States. He can never revoke term limits, or take away your right to vote. Don't like the direction he is taking the country, don't vote for him. To call him anti-American is simply a weak way of trying to engage his positions without actually dealing with them. Democracy requires a constellation of viewpoints on a diverse number of issues, and the freedom to express them and vote upon them. I am no more liberal than you are conservative (in fact, I probably have more traditionally right positions than I do traditionally left). People like Coulter reduce that complexity a democracy requires to the equivalent of college football fandom.

Jeez, you guys are quick to judge. I admitted from the get go in that AWban thread that that I was open to discussion, I also admitted that my mind was changed. However, on the topic of Ann Coulter unless she suddenly become more than just a hate spewing demagogue I see little chance of me giving a moments consideration to anything that she has to say, right or wrong.

If you like your world in black and white, then continue to cling to terms like liberal and gun-hater. Also, feel free to ignore anything that I have to say, it won't bother me one lick. If you want to make progress on the issues that you care about, consider the possibility that people don't always fit well into the little boxes that people like Ann Coulter try to fit them into.

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't cast stones...or attack someone's writing.

And having a fawning media in your back pocket, illegitimate advantages like forming and using ACORN (among others) to push your candidate, using hundreds of millions of dollars in untraceable Visa gift-card campaign 'contributions' don't? He truly bought/stole the election. Unlike in 2000 when libs said Bush had, they just didn't maximize their use of the aforementioned 'methods' like they did this time.

And they're already working it all for the next one to ensure that no one that they don't want in there will ever even come close. That's why these Tea Parties are rising up, because people are already sick of this crap, and that's why the left is trying to quash them - before they even happen.

All of that is for another discussion, this one is about guns and how the left is trying to prohibit them.

In a related note, those who live in grass houses, shouldn't stow thrones.

I don't think you really understand where the venom comes from. Let me elaborate and please forgive my grammatical errors for I have to do this quickly and go to work.

Ok, I'll even concede that the left is somewhat less venomous. But you need to realize why. Let's pretend for a second that America is a supply of eggs. And I as an american love eggs. They are good for you, they are a great source of protein and give you lots of energy. And the left have grown up eating eggs too. They have led a great life eating them. But they don't really like eggs. They want to change things. So what they want to do is beat these eggs and mix them with flour and sugar and make a cake out of them from this day forward. Well, I hate cake. It is bad for you. It is way more expensive. It will make you lethargic, increase your waist line and make you less productive. But they want to force me to eat cake. Well I'm sorry, I'm not eating your F$#@ing cake!!!! There are a ton of countries that eat cake and they are all fat and unproductive (comparatively). If you really like cake, move there and eat that sh*t until your full. We never forced them to eat eggs. They have nothing to bitch about.

There is a clear difference between a published article and a typo on an internet discussion forum.

I like your analogy. However, were you equally up in arms when Bush was openly eroding the separation of powers that is so fundamental to the constitution? I happen to think that :D stinks on both sides of the aisle these days.

There has always been division in politics, but we have perfected it as an art in recent years. Jumping on the bandwagon of divisive rhetoric does little to alleviate that problem. What we should do is hold all leaders accountable on the merits of sound arguments presented so that they may be heard by all persons, even if they choose not to listen. One thing that I have always respected about gun owners is that as a group we are active in making our voices heard to legislators. I am not sure that the same is also true when making the case to those who might disagree. For example, how productive do you think that Coulter article actually is? It reeks of preaching to the choir to me. It is also more likely to divide than to encourage open-mindedness. That is how Coulter makes her hay though, and that is why I have no respect for her, even on the rare day when she might raise a valid point.

Then explain all the errors on MSNBC's web postings.

Since when am I the spokesperson for the left? I have no more love for MSNBC than I do Fox News.

Poor writing skills are becoming increasingly pervasive as more "news" is forced to sacrifice quality and context for speed and entertainment value.

I just find particular irony in bad grammar in the writing of people who routinely attack higher education.

I guess that you don't get it, so I'll withdraw from the discussion.

Eh, I'm out too. This thread had bad juju written all over it from the start for me. I gotta try and steer clear of these political threads, though I will admit that the AW thread got me thinking more seriously about AWs than I had in the past. It just seems I make more enemies that friends any time I get into them. I'm not a troll, I enjoy talking about guns. Must... Resist... Politics...

I counted three egregious examples of misplaced modifiers in that–not sure what to call it. I've seen third graders with better command of the written word.

And this means what...everything else is invalid? Only thing more annoying than a liberal is a grammar nazi.

Satire has been at the heart of OUR political discourse for about 200 years...believe me
