I've had some nice words spoken about my avatar, George "Gabby" Hayes, so I thought I'd pass on some information to those of us who might have an interest in cowboy entertainers over the years. I have a cousin in Edmund, OK, who operates the largest cowboy entertainer reference website on the internet and it is full of information about all the major and minor cowboy movie stars, TV cowboys and cowgirls, singers, cowboy poets, writers, and wannabes. It is www.cowboydirectory.com.

It's a lot of fun just to browse through it and find out things you hadn't known before......for instance, George "Gabby" Hayes was a wealthy Shakespearean actor who was wiped out by the stock market crash of '29 and went west to find work. He became "Windy" Hayes with Bill Boyd/Hoppalong Cassidy, and "Gabby Hayes" after that. He brought the character into its own when he pulled a practical joke on the director of a "B" western by acting out a scene with his dentures removed.....and he was never again allowed to film a scene with them in. He made his last film in 1960 and died in 1969. Anyway, have some fun with it.
