:D:D I have waited for an opportunity to do some long range shooting with my totally stock Remington 700 & cheapo Simmons Whitetail 3-9X40 scope for over a year and finally got to do it at my buddies farm yesterday. Punched 1.5" avg. groups @ 250 yards all day long shooting prone off a versa-pod bi-pod with Rem. Express 180gr. sp. I would have to get a stronger scope to try anything further. Anybody know what this set up should be capable of with a good shooter?

1.5" groups are exceptional for a stock hunting rifle with a sporter weight barrel at 250 yards. That would translate into almost .5"-.7" 100 yard groups. How many groups did you shoot and how many shots per group? That can make a big difference. Most sporter weight barrels will do well with 3 shots and then spread a little. If they get really hot they will spread a lot. Good shooting, love my Remington 700's, save us some target pics next time.

I was able to do this 3 times consecutively with 5 shots. 2 of those shots would be slightly wild (within 3.75") with 3 well within 1.5". I will try this again with a more scientific approach. I had assumed the "wild" shots were the first (Shooter error/cold barrel) and last (Hot barrel) but couldn't say for sure because I couldn't see my hits and only checked my targets after each 5 shots.

Wow, that is an exceptional rifle. Hang on to that one. I've had some great Remington 700's but most of mine were heavy barrels in lighter calibers. I don't deer hunt so I have not shot the 06 at long range much. Currently have a Browning Stainless Stalker II w/Boss in 06 and I hope I can get it to shoot close to that. I had a 700BDL DM (Engraved) in 06 that was really nice but my82cam made me sell it to him. He is kinda mean like that. I have been crying ever since. :cry:Especially after telling me how well it shot.
