Idiots are alive and well and hanging out in Kangaroo parking lots. This morning I was walking out of the store and I saw someone walking up to me on my left.Thinking it was a panhandler I was prepared to confront him in a even more gruff demeanor than I show the rest of the world.Well he gets about 6 ft from me and he starts running my direction,Condition Red at this point.I step to the side and turn to face him, keep in mind my hand is on Roscoe the whole time since leaving the store and I start to draw him from my pocket when Idiot flies by me and runs up to a car window and scares the  out of the driver. It is someone he knows.:screwy:I like to think that I am a pretty good judge of people what with working with everybody from murders, and rapists to preachers but this happened so quick that I had to react on instinct.I had moved out of the way enough that I had time to clear the gun if he came my way but the point is he was not thinking about what he was doing and sombody else may have shot him.Idiot.

Yep. He's an IDIOT alright. He's probably one of these guys that thinks he's the only one on the planet and it revolves around him.....i.e. talking on his cel phone loud and EVERYWHERE, getting on an elevator before anyone has a chance to get off, driving in the out lane, or down the wrong direction in a parking lot, and walking through the door in front of your wife while you're holding it for her.

I see it happen to folks all the time. This guy/gal is everywhere.

Good job on keeping alert. I do my best to keep my head on a swivel at all times and mentally "assign" threat levels to anyone in my proximity. Especially when getting in or out of my car, I do a quick surveillance of the area. But never forget people are idiots and will do the unexpected in a split second. Secondly, what the heck is Kangaroos?

Average Joe summed it up pretty well. It's the "ME!" mentality of people nowadays that they don't even consider what their actions might cause another person to do in reaction.

Good example is the story of the kid that pulls the toy gun on his girlfriend who is working as a cashier at a gas station. Guy pulls a gun, kid drops it. Happy ending, but think how that could have gone down over a stupid joke.

Wow...you let him get within six feet of you?

if say you had shot him you would have had some 'splaining to do. I am not so sure you would have been seen as in imminent fear for your life. If he was six feet from you he could have killed you before you ever skinned leather too.

What the heck is a kangaroos?

You could have stiff-armed him and then explained the flaw in his thought process to him as he came to.

I was thinking along the same lines. Stick a foot out and after he went headfirst into the drivers side glass of the car and you helping him out, enlighten him of the error of his ways...:P

Good Lord, people...

Now a feller can't run anywhere in public to catch a friend, or a bus, or whatever, without being lucky he didn't get tackled or ventilated?

While many may like to denigrate the 97% of Tennesseans who do not have a carry permit as "sheeple" and "idiots" it might behoove us all to remember that most folks are not walking around armed (legally or not) and certainly not with tactical alert color conditions influencing their behavior.

I'd rather be overly paranoid than get murdered during a carjacking.

Kangaroo is a chain of conveniece stores.I know they go up to Manchester. If you don't know what they are then I guess their not in your area. This store is beside the interstate with motels around and teeming with panhandlers, etc..Luckily I train parking lot and checkout counter scenarios often as I feel these are the most most vunerable times for an attack.I was hoping to use my anti-panhandler verbal judo on him but alas that was not the case.

I always keep my eyes open and always looking at whats going on with my surroundings....I go about my day with no paranoia but keeping in mind that there ar crazy azz people in this world.

In the op's situation..I would have been facing him soon as i seen him running toward me...if he were to an attacker I would want him to know i see him...my opinion

You guys crack me up.

Some guy decides to run across a parking lot and you guys think he needs to be aware that there may be skittish HCP holders in the area.

[Killer Beaz voice ON] Now don’t run across the parking lot little Johnny cause some of them easily frightened HCP holders could be in the area. [Killer Beaz voice OFF]

I would have screamed "CONTACT", pulled a tactical roll, then kicked him square in the nutz.

Guys, this was merely a case of a stampeding sheep; another of their modes outside grazing.

Careful not to shoot the sheep.

Next time, situation presenting itself, square up on the guy and scream "MF, I'm gonna rip your F'ing head off"...then if he continues, well, rip his head off.

I stand by my reaction as I know the area, the type of people that hang out there and to not react would put me in the same sheeple herd the Idiot belongs to.I moved out of the way, squared up and prepared to defend myself.Sounds like some of you are used to having people run at you from out of nowhere in bad parts of town.I guess next time I will just stand there and say "Hey, main, can you hook a brother up?":p
