I got off from work this afternoon and I wanted to stop by the East Ridge Flea Market. I was looking for some more bumper stickers (political mostly). I drove by the front of the building and did not see any signs. If it was posted I was not going to go in. I did not see any, but since the police is security there I wanted to make sure so i asked an officer if they prohibited carry there and explained to him that I was a HCP holder and was not leaving it in the car and was not going to return if I had to go all the way home to leave it. He said "Hey, out of sight, out of mind, I repeat, Out of sight out of mind". I could not believe that I heard that from an East ridge LEO. I went in, concealed and noticed on the inside door there was a sign posted with the rules of the building and it did say no firearms (no, not a legal sign) and I replayed in my mind what the LEO said, out of sight out of mind and walked in, found the booth, only to find that they were not opened, and decided that I didn't need anything else and left. I was just shocked to hear that from the East Ridge PO. Some of them can just be down right ornery.

Jeezus Christo, How about if you don't see a proper sign you go about your business and NOT bring it to anybodies attention.

My thoughts exactly.....

Out of sight, out of mind.

Had a guy at a recent gun show in Smyrna tell me how much I needed a Glock.....told him I was just fine....he said "Well, I don't see one on ya"......the art of concealed carry I said.....you're not supposed to.

He looked rather puzzled.

Thought for the day...

You've taken the pain to get your HCP. You paid to take the class, you sat through that god-awful movie, you shot accurately enough to pass the practical exam and you paid Cesar his due. You're probably a pretty law abiding person.

So STOP FEELING GUILTY WHEN YOU EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO CARRY.

Keep it hidden, keep quiet, stop asking the police if it's OK for you to do what it's OK for you to do... and go about your life.

Pretty cool and unexpected responce.

But there is no way I would have walked up to anybody and asked that sort of question.

Glad it worked out for you though

the reason he probably said "out of sight out of mind" was becasue he knew it wasnt poted properly, he also knew that if it was seen there would be an issue and he'd be escorting you out. What most of you guys dont understand is if they see your gun, posted of not they can ask you to leave... and you would have to leave... in Tn you can refuse service to anyone.

On private property you will just be asked to leave. If you refuse or if you come back, you can be charged with trespassing. This does not apply on State or Federal property, schools, or where alcohol is served for consumption.

If it's posted you can be arrested on scene. If it's posted you know the owner doesn't want you carrying there and you are intentionally committing a criminal act.

It is possible for you to lose your HCP by carrying in a prohibited/posted location.
