Law Tactical AR folding stock adapter question

Recommended Posts

Posted

My neighbor brought over his Daniel Defense AR for me to help install a folding stock adapter. When I tried to install the buffer retaining pin, it wouldn't fit. I checked the mfg website and it says it takes a milspec part. The hole in the adapter where the pin goes just isn't wide enough.

I reinstalled the stock parts and suggested he return it. I googled the issue and found nobody else with the same problem. I thought he might have ordered a fake online and didn't know, but he got it from Outpost Armory in M'boro, so I doubt it.

I wish I'd taken pics to show you guys, but it looked like the threads that the buffer tube screw into were protruding into the cavity where the pin/spring go. Law Tactical has some good close-up pics online and it looks like the rim of that that hole has been cleared with a reaming tool. The part my neighbor had does NOT to be reamed.

Would you guys have done anything differently?

@BigK I've installed those Law Folders and interact with DD products often. I have seen a DD with a burr straight from the factory. It was in the rear takedown pin's detent spring hole. It stopped the takedown pin from being held in place, so the upper and lower disconnected unintentionally. Contact DD or bring it in to a LGS/gunsmith to look at. I'm at Outpost in Franklin most days and would love to take a look if you want to confirm your suspicions.

Turns out it was a burrs on the buffer retainer pin hole as suspected. My neighbor exchanged the folding adapter for a replacement today and the same pin went right into the adapter smooth as silk. The threads weren't reamed back like this pic, so they kinda created burrs in this hole.
