Benchmade Infidel failing to close-Issue Resolved

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I bought a new Benchmade Infidel and I have had problems getting the knife to consistently close. The blade likes to stick out 1/2 inch and then it has to be manually pulled back out and reset. It hasn't failed to open fully however.

Has anyone had similar issues or know how to fix it? I am going to take it to the Authorized dealer I bought it from later this week and see what they can do about it.

UPDATE:

After the guy at Knives N' More in Huntsville, AL took it apart and locktited the screws and I let it cure overnight, I have had zero issues. The blade has no play, and my infidel now shoots in and out strong.

I highly recommend you check them out if you are looking for a good price on a great knife:)

That’s a warranty issue.

The tolerances on OTFs is way closer than you might think. It doesn’t take much to throw it off - we’re talking a few thousandths of an inch.

They ought to replace it for you.

Thanks MacGyver-didn't realize the tolerances were that tight!

I took it to Knives N' More in Huntsville, AL and showed the owner the knife.

He said "What the Heck?" as the knife failed to close fully immediately, and then offered to took a look at it and disassembled the Infidel.

Turns out rails that hold the knife inside the handle had screws so loose they were out, so he put locktite on them and tightened them and said to let it set overnight.

The owner thought it might have been the machine that puts locktite on the screws ran dry as he didn't think anyone assembling the knife would have just not put locktite on as he didn't see any placed by the factory.

Great customer service, I will let you guys know how it works after tomorrow morning when the locktite sets.
