Two Mag Research BFR, 357 mag, as NIB

Recommended Posts

Boy it’s been many many months since I posted anything here, seems like life is moving way faster than I’d like it to. I’m not keeping up very well.

bbl length: 7.5

grips: factory rubber

Anyway- I am prepared to part company with one, and maybe two BFRs I own. These were acquired new by me about 3 years back. Each were unboxed, inspected, cleaned, test fired with about 100 rounds each of hand cast 158g SWC (357 cases) over some Green Dot as a break in. I DONT shoot jacketed bullets but when I do, I hate myself. I have several BFRs and there are some that are heirlooms in the making for my kids. I love the platform……. But a hot rod needs some parts and this pair of revolvers are the most underutilized kids in the crib.

These shot very well, perfectly. They were cleaned and the boxed.

And there they have sat for 3 years. In the mean time, I have taken on several hot rod projects. I don’t own land, shooting on my work schedule is prohibitive at best. My shooting since moving here to TN has taken a nose dive to zero. I am rapidly losing an interest that spans over 50 years. But the hot rods can be worked on at all hours and I don’t need land. So…. Until I can move to the country and enjoy the outdoors I have surrounding me….. small block fords it is.

Not a matched pair. My timing for acquisition was when the world had no BFRs. They came from separate vendors in other states. I wore a mask when I filled out my 4473s if that is any indicator as to the condition of the world.

They are alike, but not by serial. I buy things in twos, I have but two sons and my stuff is theirs when I crap out. This precludes arguments over dads crap! They will have to buy their own 357 BFRs this time.

I’ll post pics on Friday night. They will be good pics.

Included with either or both, as it might go, will be factory replacement sights still in the shipping packages from MRI (front posts) which are shorter for shooting lower velocity cast. After that initial shoot, I called MRI and hounded them for front posts. I believe they have 3 heights. The tallest is what they come from factory with. My 44 is similar, very tall front, but I send 310s at Uber full monte and the sights are perfect. If the replacements are still too tall, maybe your as nuts as I and would shoot 148WCs at 780 fps, you can always call and they will send out free “next size” posts.

Granted I shoot 357 maximum cast, 210gr at 1600 fps from a 10 inch barrel on other guns—-I am not timid nor is the BFR…—— but these guns were to not see ferocious magnums digested all the time. Their throats, timing, lockup, pull are all perfect for a stout heavy for caliber cast thumper but also for casual target loads. At 1000 fps the 158s land a bit below a 2 inch bull. Sights are regulated for a jacketed 125-158 gr thumper. I would have preferred 2 inch high at 25 yards and that makes 100 yard rabbit hits calculable.

Of course box, docs, tags, scope mounts, etc as were shipped from MRI are all included with each.

Buy one-

$1100.00

Buy both-

$2100.00

thats a very fair price considering the current market rate, acquisition cost reduction, SALES TAX!!!!, shipping, etc.

TN HCP and a bill of sale will be required. I won’t drive a mile at that price but if you cover my fuel, I’ll go as far as two hours from Memphis.

Now if you have a 4R70 or an AODE or E4OD with pattern for 302w/5.0, and it’s DEAD (junk/broken/destroyed), I need the case to section the bellhousing off for use on an engine run stand. Common cars you may have with parts to fill my needs: 1988-1996 ish v8 F150, Automatic v8 Mustangs from 88-94 ish, and the ever present, 96.5-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0 models. There are many others but those are the most likely candidates. As long as the bolt flange for block and starter are intact, it will be fine!!

$50.00 reduction if you have such a junker case or trans for me. I can’t use any others, No C4, T5, Top Loader, etc.

Lastly:

I’ll trade both revolvers and add boot as needed for a Jerico DR4-4 (that’s the latest version 4) “clutch assisted” trans with a ford input shaft. Gear set doesn’t matter, I’ll have to re-gear regardless. And I’d be after a Long Shifter or Hurst V gate (inline shifters only). I know it’s a stretch but unless I ask, I’ll never know.

Very sorry for delay in pic posting. Wife has RA really bad and this last week has been brutal on the entire family. The Saturday was a car repair. Thanks for the patience.

Your looking at:

Tag with model/data on one gun

One gun sacked

One gun out

Second gun is last picture.

It appears that since Feb 2021 (acquisition date for both) I have misplaced an MRI manual. The first pis have no manual. Ill attempt to find the missing manual.

Replacement sights not shown, still in padded envelopes from MRI.

Again thanks for the patience. If you reply to the post, please be patient with my reply. My hands lately have been quite full with wifes RA, work.... etc. Please PM and I will for sure get an email notification that you responded.
