Have been a connoisseur of Princes in Nashville the place that started it all about thirty years for me. After many trips and talking with owner She told me the trick is using the best spice mix and that it is quite expensive to purchase and cooking at a high heat so it goes all the way through.聽 I have tried most of the local places and was not impressed except for Hattie B's which is just OK.聽 I seen it last week in the hot deli at Publix and asked the Mgr if it was any good,of course they said yes and handed me a sample. I tried it and it was fantastic, not your KFC pour on a bunch of Texas Pete.聽 聽Went back got half a pound.聽 聽I would rate it right up there with Prince's.聽 It is warm and stays with you about ten minutes but not screaming hot.it is about like Prince's mild or Hattie B's medium.聽 Said they have it about two days a week. I mostly cut it up for topping on a salad or in pasta dishes.

Garufa likes his chicken spicy.

I wonder if Knoxville Publix does it Nashville style.

Haven't seen it but I only go to the Northshore location. If anywhere had it could be the campus location

The new Yee-Haw brewery up on Broadway is supposed to have real deal Prince鈥檚 hot chicken. 聽Haven鈥檛 tried it yet鈥etting to the point where my tolerance for brewery types and loud ass places is diminishing. 馃榾

It's hard to beat Prince's, but I don't mind Hattie B's. We used to go to a meat & 3 in Cool Springs named Bishop's Meat & Three for lunch almost every Friday. You had to get there early because they always sold out of Hattie B's chicken. They had the best squash casserole I ever ate.

Have you had the hot chicken at Farmacy?聽 It's so hot I tapped out and couldn't eat it.聽

Yee Haw is a cool place but I didn't try the hot chicken. I still had PTSD from Farmacy.聽

The Nashville Hot at Publix is legit. Not the hottest but fantastic flavor. The will do wings, tenders or a 8 piece in hot if you ask them.聽
聽Will get a couple of 8 pieces in hot and put it in the fridge. Heat it up in the air fryer and it is great.聽

I've wondered the same thing. I never heard of it until the last 5 years. Now places in Knoxville are jumping in on the action.聽

right?

Is it that easy? As of today, I'm famous for good looks and winning personality. Let's see how this pans out.

Wiki says it was a Southern family dish since the thirties but the Prince family made it famous in 1980

The story is one of the Prince family men was not a very faithful husband. 聽The wife got tired of it and decided to do something about it. 聽She decided the best way to punish him was to, unbeknownst to him, dump a bunch of cayenne pepper on his fried chicken. 聽The rest as they say is history.

You're doing it wrong, you can only identify as something you can't be.聽

Call me a wimp, or something else if you prefer; but I've just never seen the attraction in intentionally burning out my taste buds. I prefer milder聽 seasonings and more palatable foods.聽 Flavor is one thing, but misery is another. Not saying no spices or seasonings at all, but I don't want to be miserable trying to eat my food. I had a friend explain it once. He loves spicy stuff. For some people, they get a little head buzz from it. I guess all the endorphins or something. It's misery for us normal people and enjoyment for them.聽

The rest are just trying to act tough I suppose.聽馃榾

The Prince's hot is hot enough for me. I can't imagine how hot their XXX is. When we ate at Yee-Haw last, I think we decided we'd chip in and get an order of XXX for all of us to sample. But I honestly can't imagine that I would be able to stand it.

Honestly, I might even take a step back from Prince's hot... I might be a wimp. 馃槃

I use to order the hottest they had at any of the Hot Chicken Places. Fun fact: If you eat enough Ghost Pepper your pee will burn when you go. Alas, today my intestines will not tolerate what either my mouth or butt can handle. I had some Hattie B's Damned Hot last week while downtown for VA visits, and my wife could hear my guts rumbling from 3 feet away.
