Years ago at a gun show in Raleigh a guy shot his thumb off with an "unloaded gun."  I'm never completely comfortable at gun shows or gun shops.

Good grief.

Well I wish him best and hope he heals quickly.

I prefer to shoot at outdoor ranges, like the Action Pistol range at ORSA where it's only myself and or a few trusted friends.

That said I do shoot several times a month at Range USA. Good people and good RSO's, but you definitely always have to be on the lookout for those shooting around you. It's a national phenomena.

After 50 years in healthcare, ER/ICU I've come to the conclusion that there is a great deal more "negligence" than the is "accidental"...

Didn't he realize which end the bullets came from? 🤨

Keep the fingers off the triger and not in front of the barrel when holstering!

Bless his heart

Leg, hip, or foot makes sense, but I wonder how he shot himself in hand while holstering.

I truly hate it for him as well.

Working ER for the past few decades I've seen similar related to using the non-gun hand to open or steady a less than rigid holster.

Reholstering should be a cautious and deliberate act into a well made holster that doesn't collapse.

Not saying that was what happened in this case, but I've seen wounds to the hip, lower extremities and even the non-gun hand that happened when reholstering,

Hope he recovered well. 🙏

Some folks like to use the off hand to guide the gun back into the holster. Commonly laying the hand on the top of the slide near the muzzle. I admit my own guilt in this until I finally broke myself of this bad habit. 🙄

Is that what the “side holster” maneuver is they referred to in the report?

If it could happen to a highly skilled lawman like Barney, it could happen to anyone. 😆

I could see that, thanks. I didn't think about that being how it might have happened.
