Like you, I thought of him as a local hero. I never met him, but it felt like everyone in Memphis knew him.

I liked him as a player, one reason because I had a little league coach that always told me he coached Tim in little league also. He converted me from outfield to catcher so I could grow up to be a big league catcher too. Once I got to the longer bases I found out that I just didn't have the arm but I still idolized McCarver.
