I'm tinkin about starting up a little lawn care service, and just looking to see what the current rates are for your basic mow/weedeat type service.

Also need to know if its week/bi-week/monthly service rates too please ;)

Just trying to figure out if the investment would be worth it at the moment.Especially considering Id have to immediately hire on at least a second person to handle the things that I couldn't do physically-yanno

I pay a few bucks worth of gas, and lots of sweat ;)

My parents have their yard done by someone, I think it's about a 1/4 acre, and I believe they pay $30.

I pay about 30 minutes of my time and maybe a quart of gas.

;)

Speaking of which, now that it's dried up, I gotta mow this afternoon. All that damn rain made the grass grow about three feet since last Thursday.

A few years ago we paid $40 for a 1.33 acre lot. In a townhouse now and the homeowners fee covers all the yard stuff.

We pay a friend from church $35 to mow and weed eat our .3 acre or so lot. Honestly, I think there are a LOT of people going into this same type of work right now due to the economy and job loss. Everyone if undercutting each other and nobody is making money. I see the same thing with commercial cleaners. I get at least one, usually 2-3 people a week stop in my office and tell me about their new cleaning company, asking if I will hire them.

Not to be a wet blanket, but I would keep researching (like you are) and think long and hard about it right now.

Best of luck!

Good points, musicman. PLUS, it's seasonal work (obviously), and if a drought comes (like last summer), you're hung out to dry.

I do it on the side. I don't unload my mower for less than 35.00. If you wanna discuss it either pm me or I'll give you my number & we can talk about it. Due to the local economy though there's alot of folks that used to pay to have there yard done. That are now doing it themselves. Also it'll be harder now to get the yards since the seasons already started.
