Trigger Job on a SR9

I have a Ruger SR9 and it's a great gun, but like a lot of Ruger's the trigger is a bit gritty. I have been thinking about getting the 6.5 lbs pull set down to around 3 lbs. Does anyone have a ball park idea of what a gunsmith would charge me?

Most trigger jobs on other handguns are going for anywhere from $75 - $100 based on what I have seen online. Have you checked on any of the Ruger forums to see if there are reputable gunsmiths offering this service for the SR9?

For example, on the Smith & Wesson M&P forums two very well known gunsmiths (Dan Burwell and David Bowie) provide this among other services for M&P owners and they have a very well documented success record with the forum members. I'd be surprised to find that there isn't a well known Ruger gunsmith doing the same for SR9 handguns.

Also, I'd be sure to check with Ruger and see if a trigger job will void any part (or all) of your handgun's warranty.

Remove the mag safety (30 seconds or so) and it'll help a lot. Cut off about two rings on the back of the striker spring, and you'll be down between 3-4 lbs. at $0.

Thank you for the advice.

I ordered a striker spring this morning and I am going to remove two rings and see what that does for me. I did want to cut the spring until I had one to replace it with just in case I jack it up. I know most people don't like the Mag Safety but I think I will keep it in tack for now. With the mag safety, trigger safety and thumb safety, I feel very safe tweaking the trigger pull weight and trigger reset even though I use it for a carry gun.
