Nashville Armory has new policy of collecting customer ID Info

I was shopping this week at the Nashville Armory and tried to buy a handgun magazine with cash and the worker at the register insisted on having my name and phone number or my photo ID to complete the purchase. This was "company policy to prevent fraud." When I refused, he denied the sale. A few months ago, this policy was not in effect at the Armory so it is recent.

I will shop elsewhere going forward but thought others might benefit from knowing about this policy when making decisions on where to shop...

Whenever I am asked for a phone number at checkout I just give them 867-5309.  Occasionally I will hear a chuckle from someone in line behind me.

Whenever I am asked for such information when paying cash the answer is a simple and authoritative NO or “you don’t need that”.  It’s that simple.

What kind of fraud threat does a customer paying cash for a magazine pose that name/number/photo ID will mitigate?

They support the second amendment but not the fourth. Sounds like the owner or employees need a civic lesson. Stand them up. Then tell them to pound sand on the purchase.

Shop online. I've never been asked for anything except 'would you like to subscribe to our newsletter?'

Gun stores and shops aren't what they used to be. If you find a good one, tell other people. If you find a bad one, tell other people.

I've found the lack of general gun knowledge prominent in most gun stores where the focus is on tactical ARs and all the doodads to hang off the rifle. If you're not buying the latest whizbang AR or overpriced tactiturd camo and Molle pouches for your trip to Piggly Wiggly, they're not interested.

But there are many online stores where customer service is important, prices are better, and the staff know their guns. They make it easy to do business with them.

Well, yes, and your payment information, name and address. And probably a phone number and email address. Really, it doesn't save much information at all over what Nashville Armory is asking for, does it?

I don't mind giving that information at all. One can go online and search for a person and find that all out except for payment information. My credit card company protects me from fraud.

In the 46 years I've been using credit cards I've never had one problem.

I do have all my credit bureau reports locked-down since I have no need of credit.

So, yes, I do prefer doing business with reputable online stores.

Make sure you tell the manager, or even the owner if you have their contact info.  It's perfectly legit for a business to want to establish a customer database for various reasons, but a gun store especially should know that is an iffy thing with parts of their customer base.   If it makes you take your business online or elsewhere in town, that's a data point they should have as well.

Sorry to hear this about Nashville Armory.  I'm a Royal Range guy, but had a positive experience for my visits to Nashville Armory.

They don't support the 2nd.  They are 2nd Amendment Butters,

I went in to buy a new belt couple days ago, they wanted my name and address for cash purchase. To which I replied, Mike Hassler, (615) 599-5562... excited to see if theres a follow up..
