premature slide lock

Recommended Posts

So i picked up this little FEG AP 7.65 auto pistol at the last gun show.

It has tons of holster wear but really does not appear to be fired very much.

It had feed issues at first as well as the slide issue. I managed to resolve the feed issues by buffing the feed ramp out and tweeking the mag lips a little.

Actually it shoots pretty well from about 15 feet on in. The DA pull is a monster but dry firing it a lot has eased it up some.

The issue I can't seem to resolve is the premature slide lock back. I can remove the part easy enough, it lifts right out and the slide issue will be sort of fixed.

Anybody have any ideas on what causes a slide to lock back while there are still rounds in the magazine?

My lock back does not have that. That must be the problem.

I dunno if it was there when I bought the gun or if I lost it the first time I stripped the piece.

That's the slide lock spring! Sounds like you might need one.

It is not attached to the lock at all. Just slips in under a little crimp in that area.

As I just discovered it has a tendecy to launch when you take it out.

You might hunt around the bench there :P or just try to order one.

Ah, as blind luck would have it I looked around on the floor in the basement where I work on the guns at. Sure enough there was a very small piece of spring. Looked like a piece of a staple. But I am thinking it is the part. way to stiff to be a staple.

Gonna try to fit it in.

yep, that was definitely the part, fits right in and appears to function correctly.

Gonna take it out and run the last of the rounds I have through the pistol.

I can't believe I found that tiny little piece on the floor.

Apparently your luck is better than mine.....mine would have stuck to the boot of a delivery man two seconds after flying, and wound up falling out in a pile of shredded metal in Chicago.

LOL TJ, that's normally how my luck runs.

I just came back from putting rounds through the TMG (Transylvanian Mouse Gun)

No misfeeds, no slide lock back, All rounds on target.

I have more ammo coming on Monday, I will put 50 through it next week sometime. But I am sure that it is fixed.

woot for me!

Thanks for the help John, woot for you too!

Congrats Mike! Glad it worked out! I finally got out and shot that Llama today......I like it....I was really surprised how little muzzle flip it has for a small .380 Hopefully tomorrow I can get my girlfriend out to shoot it. I think the slide is going to be a little too tough for her to cycle manually, but we'll see. If it doesnt work for her, I'm sure it will still get some use :P

Having seen your work bench, I can't believe you did, either.

the spring turned up on the floor right in front of the bar, I still can't get over finding it. I need to go buy a powerball ticket.

TJ glad the .380 is working out for you. I did not think the slide was that stiff, teach her a shoulder shrug method of racking it. Some woman find it easier that way. Next time you come up bring it with you. I have some ammo we can feed it.

Don't bother with the powerball ticket......you just used up all your luck....lol

Yeah by our standards the slides not bad, I've tried several methods with her, she just has a weak grip.... Not that I'm complaining....I don't think I'd like it if she had man hands....

The BDA I got her she can cycle, but it has a larger grip.....she really likes the grip of the Llama though, I ordered a lighter recoil spring to see if it still functions reliably with it. I'll definitely bring it next time if you've got some meat and potatoes for it.

My buddy who helped run the table at the gun show has another .380 Llama he's wanting to sell. I haven't asked him how much, though. I don't really need another .380, as I can't feed the one I have.

you are right TJ, I am sure I used up a bunch of my luck karma by finding the spring.

Glad to read that the Llama is working out for you. Have you tried any hollow points through it? It seemed to run the ones I had just fine. I might have a magazine load of them around still. I think I have about 70 rounds of ball ammo in .380

Daniel if Kat ever loosens the apron string up you need to come and shoot a few rounds.

I haven't tried any HP's yet. Don't have many and savin 'em for a "special" occasion. I usually only use ball ammo in .380's anyhow. I don't really trust 'em to penetrate far enough, given their lighter weight they slow too quickly when they begin to expand. I'd rather put 7 or 8 center mass that made it through some bone and reached a decent depth.

is it chipmunk fur?

I agree with the ball ammo for the .380, penetration and shot placement is key.

I am not even going to waste my time messing with JHP's for the FEG, It will do its duty with FMJ's. At least with the 7.65 when Daniel gets shot by it he will know about it unlike when he gets shot with my .25 auto. :tough:

:D
