An idea for everyone to ponder

I am not going to go out to my flagpole and fly my US flag upside down. I think it is ridiculous to think this will make even an iota of difference.

Flying the flag upside down originated as a distress signal for a ship at sea. The idea had been bastardized by citizens as a means of protest since the 1960's.

I prefer to have my say on election day. Electing our representatives is how the founding fathers thought we should have our say. They also thought having proper weaponry and ammunition was darn important too, as well as the skill to use them.

This country is not going anywhere. Democrats want to build gov't to increase their political power. I do not believe Obama or any of the others want to see our lives in shambles. We all disagree over how to best achieve our countries goals. If King George II did not send us down the crapper in 8 years, I don't think the Big O can do it either. Recession and depression are part of economic cycles. The economy will bounce back, IMHO quicker if gov't stayed out of it.

I dunno, I guess I could go an get an old Soviet flag and fly that, yeah that makes sense.

Difference between FDR's years in office and now is with the makeup of the American people, going into the makeup of the pandering whores we call politicians is another story. FDR did not have a big section of the populance sucking on the public teat in one fashion or another, used to it and demanding more of it. Social Security was a big deal and a somewhat good idea, maybe, back in FDR's day and look at it now. Look at the SHTF results when trying to get it on a firm footing is tried. Back in FDR's days we still taught our kids to love America, to love and worship God, to be independent, the value of a good education and to work hard. The populance of FDR's day beat the Nazi's and the Japs and built us into an economic and military powerhouse.

But WTF, my grandkids have a RIGHT to healthcare though they eat a lot of junk food, take drugs and have other risky behavior. They have a RIGHT to have a house that they cannot pay for and a RIGHT to a decent income even though they don't want to really work or get a good education, cause you filthy rich cheat and keep them down, so go Obama sock it to em. So quit your bitching and just be prepared to have your children and all other future generations pay for it.

PS, anyone know where I can get a copy of the Koran and Spanish? Makes a good Winter Holiday gift for the kids.

Write letters and send emails to your politicians, and lots of them. If you only write 1 letter you won't get our point accross, because every gun owner isn't going to write letters. Send out atleast 2 or 3 a month. Keep the letter short and to the point, one or to paragraphs. They aren't going to read the entire letter. They will read enough to find out what side you're on. If you have lots to say break it up and write it in several different letters. It only takes a couple minutes to write a letter and adress the envelope. If we can't get organized enough to write letters we don't stand a chance. If you can't write some letters you might as well go join the Brady Campaign.

I cant argue with the top portion of that about how folks were raised back then :)

But I just gotta say that the second part is contradictory to the first.

If your grandkids have drug problems, junk food problem, and are knee deep in debt, wouldn't that be because of how they were raised?

Maybe I should have added sarcasm to follow.

That's correct its how they were raised and were enabled to be raised. Hardly anybody takes responsibility for themselves and their actions anymore, its just to damn hard. So the government is allowed to take charge to take the burden off the shoulders. And the government takes a little here and a little there and before you know it well "I'll entitled so frick you evil hard working greedy SOB. How darn you want to keep most of your money...."

I think America is in the most perilous time in her history. We are at a point where unless the tide is turned quickly she will change into a group of socialist states, possibly not even united, and sink to developing nation status.

She will not, can not defend her boarders.

Her currency is becoming worth less and less.

Her energy policy is a tire gauge and light bulbs.:)

Her leaders will not allow her to develop her abundant energy resources.

She has three leaders who are extreme liberals and believe that wealth needs to be distributed among the leaches, the parasites and other non producers.

America's leaders somehow believe they can borrow her into prosperity and saddling her with great debt. Current leadership of America is quite different from what made America a great nation.

Her current leader has zero executive experience, never even run a hot dog or shoe shine stand.

Her industries are in peril, largely do to over regulation and an oppressive tax environment.

Government develops and promotes programs that are bound to fail, force business and banks to participate and then go after the businesses for doing what they have to do to survive in the forced business practice.

So, I think it is quite appropriate to fly the stars and stripes upside down.

Oh, the parallels to Atlas Shrugged. Ayn Rand was right, as Rush is today.

God bless America, she needs it.

Very well said.

However I disagree that we disrespect the flag by flying it upside down.

I am a Patriot. I am not ready to surrender and I am not ready to blame everything on the government.

Whether or not our economy recovers is up to the American people. It is a time for protectionism; it is a time for true Americans to step up. If our manufacturing base does not recover we are doomed. We have to buy products that are manufactured here and create American jobs. If you are trying to justify your foreign purchases you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

However… Obama is getting dangerously close to getting us into a financial situation we will never be able to recover from. If all it took was some clueless dumb azz sitting in Washington thinking he has plenty of money; we would have been out of this problem already.

Sure we need to make sure the American auto companies don’t fail. But also they need to be telling us how this bailout money is going to help get Americans to buy American made cars. Is any of this money helping them build plants in Mexico or Canada? Because I don’t want my money used to create jobs in other countries.

And how long is Obama going to let the heads of AIG make him look like a fool before he calls on Congress to have them put in prison where they belong?

I'm old enough to remember when the SDS and the Yippies were doing this crap, and it pissed me off then. If I see any political statement made with MY FLAG, I may get upset and do something I would regret. I would only stand to see it really used as a distress signal.

Now, open carry by those of us that can legally do so, could make a statement. But not now.

For now, I'm going to fly my flag the correct way, have my blue star in the window of my house and car for my son who is in the service, and react when the time is right.

Reacting prematurely to our honorable elected officials is playing into their hands. Kinda like when you say the F-word all of the time. It loses its' effect. Timing is everything.

While I do understand your frustration and extreme concern regarding our current economic and political status I cannot agree with the thought process of flying our country's flag upside down. Under these circumstances I believe that it would be a severe sign of disrespect.

The flag does not belong to "us" nor does it belong to "them" it belongs to all U.S. Citizens. Our grandfathers, great grandfathers and even great great grandfathers fought and died to save it, preserve it and protect it in one way or another.

We all want our country to thrive, and obviously have very different theories of how to turn things around. All of these theories have some merit. But insulting our flag does nothing to win over the hearts and minds of those who do not agree with you.
