5 shot 44 special or Ruger max 9

For carry and self defense which would you carry? Not trying to make it a pocket gun.

I happen to be a huge fan of the .44 Special. Outstanding cartridge! Well known manstopper.  I have been known to carry my S&W 696 from time to time.   

I guess it depends on what make and model you have and if you can comfortably carry and conceal it. 

However, I have to admit, the 9mm is probably more practical.

Do you prefer apples or oranges?  As much as big bore rocks, I think 13 rounds of 9mm in a plastic pistol is far more practical for everyday carry purposes.

I have always wanted a Charter Arms Bulldog.44spl, but my daily carry is a Ruger Max-9. with the CT1550 RDS. It's just more practical and unless you reload, the .44spl is expensive to run. 

But one of these days one of these is going to be mine! And who knows, I might even carry it sometimes!

To me those are tools with different purposes.

Urban v. rural, human v. animal attack, ability to maneuver to cover, and ability to run away are relevant factors.

If I can't maneuver easily and use cover (say I'm injured to begin with, or caring for a small child) or if I think multiple assailants are likely, I want the ability to fire rapidly and reload quickly.

In a rural area where the most likely threat is an animal, I'd rather have the .44.

Not going to lie I think either scenario I would rather have the capacity and reload speed of a 9MM semi auto. Especially if we are talking about TN wildlife, you get into the mountains or out west I would switch to a glock 10MM but same concept.

Would prefer the advantages of a high capacity nine. However—the Max 9 did not meet my  expectations.

Glock 48 with a 15rd Shield Arms magazine or a Glock 19 depending on how big your hand is.

The Max-9, with the CT1550, has more than met my expectations, hence it is pretty much my only daily carry now.  But every company produces lemons from time to time.  Of late, it seems like most companies are have QC issues, even the big name gun manufacturers.

I recently purchased a Max 9 and have liked it. I carry it on Sunday and Wednesday night to church. I normally pocket carry a Taurus 2" Mdl 617 7 shot loaded w/357 Cor Bod DPX. The Max 9 does not print as bad and for sure when wearing black slacks. I would like to carry it with the 12-round mag, but the grip is too long for pocket carry. Does fine with the 10-round mag. Carry both in Nemesis pocket holster.

Carried a 5 shot bulldog for a while, when I was loading for .44

Pocket holster fit right in work pants like Dickies.

Fit my hand a lot better than the 938 I have. Wish I didn't sell it, but thats life.

Given the opportunity, I'd carry another snub in .44spl.
