Things seem to be going to hell in a handbasket.....

Is the grid really supposed to be configured to handle 2 bad days out of 365?

My issue is that after Texas had their grid failure TVA swore we could handle a sustained period of negative temperatures before we would have issues. So either they exaggerated or something changed.

It's a little concerning we had issues with a few days around 10 degrees. It was only a mild inconvenience losing power for 15 minutes so I'm thankful it wasn't worse.

Most people would be better off if they quit worrying about what others have, quit waiting around to be lifted up, be thankful for what they do have, and instead of plotting and praying for the downfall of someone better off than they are, maybe study the path that person took and what makes them tick and possibly learn how to be more successful themselves.  What a novel concept.

I agree!!! I agree that could be a way to keep your head buried in the sand also. If we were not worried about the things others had we wouldn’t know anything about anything. That’s how the world knows what is “cool”. I know there are 2 or 3 people that do it differently but let’s say most do it because someone else had it or something along those lines.
I do apologize as I thought we were just chatting about what we feel is wrong with the USA. I didn’t mean to offend you as a person.  I just wanted to say the way we have done things do seem to be working for some of us. A large percentage of us anyway.  I just figured most people are intelligent enough to realize it's not really working and we should try something else. Or we can keep our heads in the sand and continue to believe in the failed American dream. Mostly because 22 veterans kill themselves every single day. To me that is a failure in every way possible. Changes are happening. Our kids know it’s not working. Perhaps not even them but perhaps their kids will not continue to try and breathe u def the sand while saying how great everything is.  I do sincerely apologize if you feel offended. We all have a certain “construct” that we live in. We create it. We believe it. Instead of knowing it’s something that we made up.

Some folks don’t give three craps about what is supposedly cool.  And I didn’t get offended.

There’s capitalism and socialism and not much else in between unless you want to throw in socialism’s cousin fascism.  What do you suggest we should try?

How much does this person have the right to make?

As much as his conscious allows, as long as it’s honest money and not from criminal activity.

Whatever his/or conscious will allow. BUT perhaps I see more of an US as Americans than the ME Americans. If your stupid rich and are surrounded by desperate people and communities then you are the target and won’t last very long even in memory, instead of becoming someone who lifts others and make your environment better for everyone in it.
Like I said, perhaps I’m a conservative socialist. Hell I don’t know. I hate we have become a country of the haves and have nots. I know it’s been the same throughout history. I figured with the invention of a god like Jesus then it would create more shame around excess.

You’re a full blown progressive. Hope this helps.

What happened with TVA was they had unscheduled outages at two coal fired plants (old technology) and one gas turbine plant (new technology).  I think that I also heard one solar plant had issues too (but I'm not sure of that). When those three plants went offline, then the whole system was on the verge of becoming unstable, hence the rolling blackouts.

The two coal fired plants were Bull Run and Cumberland.  I'm not sure where the gas plant was. Bull Run has had issues for some time now and is only used on part time basis.  It is scheduled to be shut down in 2025.  After that, I believe Kingston or Cumberland may be next. Regardless, TVA is going out of the coal business by 2035.  They are working hard to bring online more gas plants and solar farms.  Right now they were working on expanding the gas turbines at Johnsonville.  And more large solar farms are also coming online in the next several years.

I think we just had the perfect storm.  I also think TVA will learn from this and rethink some of their long-term plans for power generation,

You don’t even need to want to. They are about to be mandated. Hide and watch.

It might be starting to trend in that direction again with the same hardheaded types saying the same things over and over.

I’m starting to think your right!  I do believe in the 2nd. Unconditionally. Every single citizen.

I do lean a bit center to left on abortion. I mean I don’t give a hoot what other people do. As long as it don’t obstruct my pursuit of happiness!

im quite a bit to the right on immigration. Why are we allowing more people in when we have folks living in the streets! We can’t take care of what we have!

I like to think I lean closets to being free and allowing others to be free.
I still vote for people not party’s. That’s the way we used to do it. My biggest have to is someone fairly honest. Politicians are by design dishonest. But I need them to know what reality is. But honestly until we can get politicians that have had to decide between paying for prescriptions or buying food then we will always get what we have always got. Can’t expect different if we don’t demand it.

I can say I paid my water bill last month and am about tired of flushing the toilet with a bucket.🥺

Any of you who haven’t read “Atlas Shrugged” and are curious what our future looks like, I’d suggest you pick up a copy.

Seriously, has David once again allowed politics?

He’s probably just trying to enjoy the holidays without the name calling and other hysterics that always seems to creep in when unmonitored.
