I saw this on another forum and thought it might be fun to try here. Fair warning: on that other forum the discussion is getting a bit lively. 🙄

My own opinion: Absolutely its a Christmas movie. In my house, we've watch Die Hard on Christmas day since it was first released. it makes a fun distraction from all the fuss and stress  that's led up to the day. 😉

What cha think?

I do not consider it a Christmas movie and never have.  Never even thought about it until the internet made it a thing, therefore I vote yes, lol.

i could watch it anytime but don’t go out of my way to do so this time of year.

Yes, absolutely. Perhaps even more-so is Lethal Weapon from 1987. Lethal Weapon even opens with the song  Jingle Bell Rock and an Angel falling several stories to her death.  😟

Well there's a great shootout in a Christmas Tree lot anyway...

But what the heck. I'll be watching both of these fine films this week.

But first I have to finish off season one of True Detective which has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas but is a bad ass series nonetheless...

It’s a movie that takes place at a Christmas Party. That in and of itself does not make it a Christmas movie.

Okay.  But the fact that it’s about a father trying to reunite with his family and deliver a Christmas present does make it a Christmas movie.

The entirety of the events that take place at Nakatomi plaza are just the trials along the journey.  The real story is that a broken down old cop got to be with his family for a holiday.

So I guess I am the lone person who doesn’t think it is a Christmas movie.

Why isn’t it?

“it’s a Wonderful Life” was not intended to be a Christmas movie. But it became a one because the networks started showing it at Christmas

“The Sound of Music” is to some a Christmas movie as it also comes on every Christmas time.

At least “it’s a Wonderful Life” occurs at Christmas time.

I suppose it does all revolve around what you view as a Christmas movie.  I just think they are good classic movies.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie but I prefer Bad Santa.

That is a great one, and it carries that positive messaging about power of love the xmas diehards (see what I did there?) want, but with all the boozing,  philandering, etc that keeps the jaded types well entertained.

Something for everyone!
