Picked up a gun the other day and had H.W. CREIGHTON stamped in the barrel. All I could find out is he was a popular gunsmith in the 60's  and 70's out of the Nashville TN aria. Dose anyone else on here know any more??

Not me. Could you post some pics?

well, I can but it's just a name stamped in a barrel. There's no engraving or anything like that

What kind of gun? Pistol, rifle, shotgun, wheelie, automatic, black powder, etc

A picture is worth a thousand words.😁

I’ll place a guess. Sporterized 98 Mauser or 03 Springfield.

Thanks to google, I learned his first name is Harry. Search Harry Creighton gunsmith, and you’ll find a bit of reading. Sounds like his work was pretty highly regarded. I’ll be interested to see your rifle.

Well I tried but the dang thing keeps telling me the file size is too big. Don't know what is going on. I have googled Mr. Creighton and found a lot of guns he has made with pictures, and they were all nice but didn't find much on the man. My gun is extremely plain with no noticeable markings. His name on the barrel is tiny and if you didn't know you would think nothing of it as I have another S&L benchrest in 308 win and the barrels look the same. I will try again to get a picture

Thank you sir!!! Hoping it lives up to the reputation of S&L and also Mr. Creighton but i am thinking it will.

Did see a lot of larger caliber guns that he had built, and his name pops up on several other forms.

At one time he was in business with a guy named Warren in the Nashville area , the Business was Creighton & Warren Outfitters if I remember correctly. I do remember it was a very swanky joint . He also at one time had a shop at Charlie Haffner's Battle Ground Armory at Goose Creek exit of I-65 in Franklin . I think he also did quite a few guns that were used on safari in Africa and other places with very large game.
