I have a BB gun, but do not shoot it on a regular basis. Probably would be good for trigger finger discipline.

I have a Crosman 302 IIRC 22 cal pellet rifle from my "younger" days.  I sent it off for a complete rebuild as the seals were 50+ yrs old, etc., and neglected.  I shoot it a couple times a month now to keep the seals lubed, etc.  Killed a few pesky birds that didn't know to keep quiet with it too.

I’ve never had a Red Ryder but every year around this time when I go to Walmart I sure do think about it.

Thing is BB’s are dangerous as hell.  I hate to sound like my mother but them things are unpredictable.

When I feel the need to start shooting at home I’ve got an old Winchester 67A with a ridiculous 27” barrel and a couple of boxes of Aguila Super Colibris out in the garage.   That combo is way quieter and safer than a BB gun, lol.

I've got a Buck and a Red Ryder for my boys and a Crossman piston rifle for me. They're the only thing we can shoot in my suburban backyard. 

I'm thinking of getting my boys on the 4H shooting team.  They use Daisy 499's.  They both seem interested but neither shoot particularly well. It's mostly a matter of whether it will fit in the schedule.

I did have a Red Rider back in the mid 70’s. I wish it was still around. We used to sit on my best friends deck and shoot the carpenter bees flying in the garden.

How accurate are those, generally?  I have a Daisy Powerline and can't routinely hit anything much past 10 yards with BBs.

I can hit beer cans routinely at about 20ft.  Further than that requires some Kentucky windage for the elevation but it's still pretty accurate.  The trigger is atrocious, but its pretty accurate.

Switch to pellets with your Powerline. It should be accurate out to 30-40 yds.

I keep one standing in the garage, perfect for keeping cats out of the garage.  They know where the line is.
