My first gun was a Stevens single shot 410 shotgun. Got it in 1956 for my 8th birthday. Went to a pool room in Mount Sterling KY, and my dad bargained with the owner, who dealt in used guns, for the little single shot. I must have killed thousands of small games with that shotgun. I had a man who owned a small market who loved wild game. He gave me 50 cents and a shell for every squirrel or rabbit I would bring him. I didn't need to even field dress them. He kept me in money for several years in the fall. I would hunt before school and after whenever the season was open. Limit was 8 per day and I took him limits often. He had a deepfreeze and ate on them all year. The price he paid me was big money in the 50's.

I just gave the little Stevens to my 15 YO grandson who I know will cherish it. Told him about the history behind the gun. He couldn't believe how old it is. He calls it his squirrel gun and has taken several. Even took some swamp rabbits in S Carolina. Fond, FOND memories.
