Can anyone verify this Kel-Tek rumor?

Someone told me the other day that Kel-Tek makes guns in their spare time, but their main reason for existing is to make components for the space shuttle. And, right now the space shuttle is rampped up, so all their attention is on that and not gun making, which is why it is so hard to find that P3AT I've been looking for.

I also was told that Ruger was trying to buy some of Kel-Tek's patents?

Anyone know if there is any truth to these rumors?

All of what you said is true, they only make guns on an irregular basis almost sort of like it is a hobby to them! Thats why sometimes their guns are all over for a while and then they are gone for a long time.

As far as Ruger wanting to buy some of their patents, that would not suprise me, since one of their latest release is a copy of a keltec, also heard they are being sued for that.

Actually, they wanted all the astronauts to be armed with 1911 sidearms, because of all the little green men that are out there in space (the government is keeping this a secret). But they discovered that the 1911 was too heavy for the space shuttle to lift into orbit, so they commissioned Kel-Tec to provide VERY light weight P3AT pistols. They weigh only 5 ounces each, because Kel-Tec has discovered a light-weight ceramic that can be used for both the grip and the barrel and chamber, and still take the explosive power of the .380 round. This material is very secret, and takes a long time to make, form into the proper shapes, and cure. That's why they don't make very many firearms. Kel-Tec is sending up a guy on the next launch to see how their ceramic p3ats are working out.

Seriously (from Wikipedia):

Kel-Tec CNC Industries Inc. is a United States manufacturer of firearms. Founded in 1991 and based in Cocoa, Florida, the company has manufactured firearms since 1995, starting with small, affordable semi-automatic pistols[1] and expanding to rifles. Kel-Tec is a privately-owned Florida corporation. George Kelgren is an owner and Chief Engineer. He is the Swedish designer who also designed many earlier Husqvarna (in Sweden), Swedish Interdynamics AB (in Sweden), Intratec, and Grendel brand firearms. According to the ATF[2], Kel-Tec is the third largest handgun maker in the U.S.

Kel-Tec is making plenty of firearms, and not doing much if any space shuttle business. But they have a large variety of guns they produce, and probably do not make all varieties simultaneously, so there will from time to time be shortages of particular firearms.

Also, since the election last November, Kel-Tec firearms have been flying off the shelves. When demand is soooo high, you should expect shortages. It's the same reason you can hardly find ammo these days. As soon as it hits the shelf, some guy like you or me comes along and buys it ALL.

Actually, Kel-Tec is in the process of developing a "space-gun" that uses conventional gunpowder-based cartridges and projectiles in space for the space shuttle crew. The new design in the works compensates for the lack of oxygen in outer space, and therefore lack of combustion, necessary to detonate traditional propellants.

Not only will American Astronauts be armed with the most powerful guns in space, but the ugliest as well! :bored:

The above is Top Secret material, and should never have been made public!:bored:

There is plenty of oxygen in the space shuttle, its outside of it that is the problem. Not to mention those space gloves are quite large, and frankly, I don't see how they can shoot a P3AT with them on.

Probably using the "alternate firing mechanism".

Dropping it on anything harder than carpet.

For that, we'll have to issue them Hi Point pistols...............

Buds gun has them back in stock again. They are the same price they were last November when I bought mine… $509 delivered. I doubt you will find a much better price.

I ran an ad several places trying to buy a used one and all I got was someone wanting to sell me their used one for $650. :)

Hate to tell you, i am sure that Buds just hasnt updated their ads, since they have been sold out and just leave the old prices from last yr. up, which a lot of vendor's do. There is 1 on GB for $1099. with a cheap red dot and 2 -30 round mags. I think you wont find one for under $650. also make sure it has the chrome barrel, which the latest ones do! Good luck.:)

Wow. Holy fabrication Batman. Now that we have the made-up stuff out of the way, they had a fire a while back and still aren't back up to normal production. Prior to the fire, production was full-time. There's no indication it will be any different once retooling is complete. New machines have been added this year, but they are for other models, not for production of the popular mouseguns.
