Nitron Finish

Anybody have experience with this type of finish? I am finding conflicting reports on it. On one hand it is tough as nails but on the flip side it rubs the frame hard and needs grease instead of oil.

I like it being tough but do not want it wearing down the pistol faster because of it.

On all the Sigs that I owned, they looked best with TW25B....... not only looked best, but IMO were well protected and lubed too......

Try it, it works really good on a Nitron finish.

Personally, I like it a lot. I mean, it's no tenifer finish, but I like it a lot better than bluing.

Nitron, Tenifer and Melonite are all the same finish, just by different trade names.

They are all hard as nails, but will show wear after some carry/use.

As far as lube/grease, they all take the same, whatever you want to use.

I see... wasn't aware of that.

So, what differentiates Glock's finish (as I can plainly see/feel a difference between it and Sig's Nitron)? Is it a coating that comes in to play after the finish or what?

Partly the fact that Sig slides are stainless and Glock slides are not.

The other small percentage is a different bluing type/color used in the final steps.

My only experience with the Nitron is on the Sig GSR pistol (it is a standard finish now). Yep, reminds me of Tephlon-ic type coatings I'd seen years before... No, I really want the old school k kote like my 1980's vintage 220 has. Even Sig won't refresh my slide for me now in that finish. Dang. It held up for 20 years of almost daily use and abuse...
