4x sight that won't break the bank

I got a couple of the Romeo 5 sights and I love them. I am now looking for a decent 4x sight that won't break the bank and I can slap on ol faithful. What do you guys recommend? I wouldn't mind a red dot and magnifier either if it ends up being better.

I'm going the latter route with a Vortex Strikefire II and Vortex 3x Magnifier, but I find it also depends on what your setup is designed for, say for instance if you're doing a marksman rifle with a 16" barrel, I'd go with a 1-6x variable optic. Best I've seen for those without breaking bank have been Vortex or Bushnell, but I've found the variable ring on the Bushnells to be very stiff. If you don't mind dropping say, $500-700, you can find a decent used, or sometimes on sale, Leupold. All off these options still less than the average cost of a used ACOG.

Yeah. My old prism was an acog knock off and I would love to get a proper 1-6x sight but I never have the time to go and properly sight it.

Are their reticles useful for shooting out to distance though?

the ACSS has some pretty good built in BDC in the reticle.  Have one on a 5.56 gun and their .22 LR version and have been pretty happy with both.

For reference for a general purpose setup I still prefer a dot + magnifier

I haven't had the privilege of shooting with one yet, but I've been eyeing this one for a bit. Check out this reticle!!

I am going to echo scatman's comment with the LPVO. If the rifle is mostly for shooting distance go LPVO but if you're doing closer and quicker shots and occasionally shoot distance I would go red dot with magnifier. I am not a huge fan of fixed magnified optics personally as I don't think they are great at anything other than durability or simplicity depending on brand.
