Primers dented when slide slams shut

I just noticed my little Grendel .380 is putting a pretty good dent in the primers when you drop the slide.

Is this something some designs do? If so, is there a danger of a slam fire if i drop the slide on a round multiple times :P

Yep. You have a slam fire a'brewing. You might want to have the firing pin rebound spring checked, and I wouldn't fire the gun again until it's fixed. You could also have some crud in the firing pin tunnel in the slide keeping the pin a bit forward of its normal position, or the spring could be broken or, again, the spring is being affected by crud. Anyway, I'd cease fire.

IMHO.

PS. I had a slam fire on a new Browning Hi Power some years ago caused by problems with the rebound spring.

:P That's what i was afraid of. Ed Mason was who i always used (late 80's early 90's). If he's still around i will use him. Unless some of you Memphis guys have another suggestion. Thanks for all the quick responses :)

Ah. I think it was actually his son Bob(?) already working on the auto pistols back then anyway.... Always did a great job. Would imagine he is even better these days :koolaid:

I was looking at it again today. The firing pin wants to stick. BUT it wants to stick in the retracted position rather than the hammer down position... if that makes any sense. Gotta have something to do with it though.

Unfortunately i'm not going to be able to take it to be fixed right away :death:

Thanks guys!

wow! Dowdle is still around? When i lived in Mississippi I taught Archery at a summer camp about 2 hours from Memphis. There were a few weeks where all of the kids were from Memphis (French Camp, MS). This was back in 1996-2000. We had a couple of kids named Dowdle and they were kids of the owners of that place. Been wondering how they were doing! Also had the daughter of the guy who owns Mossy Oak... Ahhh, those were the days!

Yep, that's the one. SON. I worked there as the Archery Specialist, Wrangler, Canoeing and just about everything else. I do hope she enjoys it. My brother is going to be the Camp Manager this year. My dad works on the radio station there on campus. I miss not being in the real world sometimes, I would love to go back and work a summer.
